Since the Steelers have locked down Moore after the second quarter, Darnold has had nobody to throw to.

Correct, but you would not bringing him (or a similar player) in as a cheap vet because of his run blocking.  It would be about adding a skill set that is missing from the TE room to bridge until hopefully a good draft pick gets up to speed.

The Minshew deal would remind me of the Jake Delhomme acquisition.  We would have a 26-27 year old QB who is a fiery leader.  A solid OL, and a new tool for the offense--today's NFL offenses need a productive receiving TE.  If we continue to run the ball, you do not need a $50m QB.

I am just speculating for fun, and I realize there are hundreds of scenarios, but I have always liked Minshew and I think, in the right system, he could be very good.

TE would be a stretch at 8 or lower so i would expect us to trade back and take the TE from Notre Dame or wait until round 2. There are a couple of good edge rushers and a wr who would fit nicely at 8. If we take Anthony Richardson at 8, we will have to wait at least three years before he is deemed a bust and dropped like a bad habit.

I still say this is the best route.  We are looking at QB4, possibly QB3.  Sorry, but Richardson and/or Levis just doesn't get me excited.  Two big arms, but one consistently under-performed and the other is as raw as sushi straight off the boat.

Build the team and then find the QB rather than find the QB and try to build the rest of the team around him.  This is the way.  Anyone who thinks this team is only QB away is at homer level-10 or just completely oblivious.  They are a scrappy bunch and Wilks has them playing about the best they can, but teams with superior talent will eventually win the day against an over-matched club playing above their means.

And we have a measuring stick---we lost our #2 WR and our all pro RB---We added a few pieces to the OL.  We have zilch at TE.  Darnold is playing better because the running game is better.  A game manager may be all we have moving forward, but a game manager really needs a solid TE.

I mean, don't draft a Levis or Richardson in round 1, giving them 3-4 years to bust.  I think a solid Defense, strong OL, and a top notch TE is better.

The QB I tend to like (considering the draft position I think he will be available) is Tune from Houston.  To me, I do not see much of a gap between him and Levis or Richardson.

Richardson is a poor man's Cam Newton, slightly smaller and a bit faster.  But completing 50% of your passes when defenses are shadowing the QB and containing him in the pocket?  Not impressive.

We simply win too many games to get a top QB and we lose too many games to be a serious contender.  We strive for mediocrity.

The 49ers come to mind.  It seems no matter who they put behind center, solid coaching with weapons surrounding their QB de jour paired with a smothering defense is a winning recipe.  Freaking Brock Purdy looks good for crying out loud.

And throughout history--there have been teams to win the super bowl with mediocre qbs--Jim Plunkett, Hostetler, Brad Johnson, trent dilfer, doug williams, etc.  So it can be done, but all other pieces were in place. 

In the era now where QBs are costing 25% of the cap, it could change the way GMs build rosters.  I mean, Denver and Cleveland fans have to be very nervous right now.

      When Parcell’s said Bryce better “walk on water”…..the implied concern wasn’t that the tiny QB could survive being hit.  It was acknowledging he would have to be extremely special to overcome the handicaps he would face at this level.  Which he isn’t and can’t.  which isn’t just being hit.  It’s being able to play in an NFL pocket and make NFL throws from it….and that ultimately is Bryce’s problem.  He doesn’t play well from a NFL pocket and can’t make all the throws as needed.  He can’t see as others can.  Which impacts the throws he does and doesn’t take.  It also impacts him bailing and killing plays and turning them into scrambles/dead plays

      9:30 kick off here in Scotland, which is better than the 01:20 early hours of Monday that I feared. Will definitely be watching, but probably wouldn't if it had been 0120 as I need to be up for work at 05:45. Falcons Saints is 6pm on the Sunday so will watch that too if it becomes relevant

      So much revisionist history around the pre-draft Bryce hype. The media was practically united in saying that if he were a couple inches taller he'd be the perfect prospect and it was just a question of whether he'd hold up in the NFL being that small. The Panthers did not create the mythos around him they were just the team that bought in. The team was largely praised for the move after and for surrounding him with what was considered an all-star coaching staff at the time.  Yeah part of the fanbase wanted Stroud but let's be real, we're coming from an oversized franchise QB who injured himself out the league. There was some analysis here on the limitations of Bryce's game but people were mostly just concerned he was going to turn into dust when he got sacked in the NFL.
