I very seriously doubt Tepper is going to make another ground breaking wild splash with his next head coach move after the last one blew up in his face and made him look like a total clown. If we win the division it's gonna be Wilks. It's the quiet, safe move and the media will heap praise on him for hiring a minority candidate who got screwed over in his first HC gig.

Yeah and supposedly Tepper was the driving force between Wilks hire in the first place. IF that is true, I suspect he might be pretty close to being the chosen guy anyway.

I'd be ok with Wilks IF we get a better offensive mind in place. I'm not a McAdoo fan. If Reich would come in as OC, that would be ideal, but I get the sense that he'll likely land on his feet as a HC somewhere.

If Wilks isn't the guy, I'd shoot for the moon and go after Harbaugh, and if he says no, I'd be happy to "settle" for one of the Shanes (Steichen or Waldron).

I don't think anyone should be a McAdoo fan. We simply have to improve that position, whether Wilks is the guy or not.

Unless we lose out or something, I'd rather keep Wilks than hire Frank Reich.  I'd be open to Steichen or Johnson.

Now that's something I can agree with. I still say we need a HC with a proven background in Defense or Offensive with a good pool to pull from. Imo Ryan and Steichen are proven and would make this team a contender. Wilks is still a strong contender as well but how would he set up his staff. He needs a better DC for sure because Holcombe isn't the awnser.

Per ESPN's Dan Graziano, Tepper wants to hire someone with previous head-coaching experience and has a list of candidates that includes Sean Payton, Leslie Frazier, Marvin Lewis, Frank Reich and Dan Quinn.

MARVIN LEWIS!!  That entire list pisses me off... Where is Dan Graziano right now so I can drive there and slap him???

So we've asked a generic question about Wilks versus whomever this morning, but I think it would be helpful to better define the "whomever".

If not Wilks, then who do we see as viable alternative candidates?

A couple of names I would start out with...

- Shane Steichen
- Frank Reich
- Ben Johnson
- Shane Waldron
- Demeco Ryans

(not necessarily all my preferred choices but viable options nonetheless)

What are the arguments for choosing one of these guys...or someone else?

On Ryans, I think we'd be better off sticking with Wilks who already has the trust of the players, rather than Ryans who seems quite similar to Wilks but would have to start at ground zero with the relationships.

The one possible advantage to Ryans is I'm pretty sure he'd bring in a Shanahan disciple to run this offense, but then so could Wilks.

    • Well boys. Rods playoff bust just showed up again. We traded for Gutz and Kuzy and it didn’t matter. It just flat out sucked. Our goalie became an issue again.  We have some major off-season questions.  1.  Is rod our guy?  Could we find anyone better?   2. Gutz and Jarvis.  Sign them. Would they want to play for a team that flames out every postseason? 3. Goalie. Again. Major issue. Koochie and Martin going forward. Cut Freddie  4. Burns, Staal, Martnook. These boys are getting old. How much do they have left? 5. Necas. I’d try to resign him to a new deal.    6. Skjei and Pesce. You get one but with how shitty the playoffs went you may get two.    7. Morrow and Nikishin.  How fast can they get up to speed?     8. Rod again. His system in the playoffs is trash unless perfection in net happens.    what a sad ending to a great year. Bad coaching decisions killed us. We got Gutz and set the world on fire with the JAG line but rods boy crush in Svech derailed the one.  Imagine the JAG line in the playoffs????  You blew it rod. You blew it again. This was our window. It’s gone.
    • I’d let him walk.  Players play. Coaches coach.  This team has talent.  Our ceiling is set.  If Rod somehow stays.  Let Koochie play. Freddie is the reason we lost this series. This guy was balls. I mean he sucked. Freddie was Meazik bad.  It’s Koochies team now.  If rods flameout playoff style is the standard then I will not be renewing my season tix. I’ll save money and watch us loss at home.
    • What's shampoo got to do with this? Ahhhh, maybe a short joke.
