Lotta people are down on Darnold right now, and with good reason.  However, Hurts, Goff, Lawrence, D. Jones, Tua---there are a lot of examples of QBs that people have almost given up on--called a bust--and then the situation changes, and they are suddenly better.

From the Jets to to the Panthers with Rhule--not many QBs would have survived that.

Would you be content with Darnold, Corral and our freshly drafted rookie going into camp?  Honestly, I wouldn't have an issue with it.

It is not ideal, but we are building our staff to develop our QBs--so that is the best and most realistic option.  I would be OK with it.

I think Darnold (he is 24) still has a chance to get better with a strong coaching staff and support system (defense, OL, RBs, WRs)

Being optimistic is one thing. But to mention him in the same breath as any of those other QB's is peak cope. He was thoroughly outplayed by Andy Dalton cmon.

The point was--new coaches and situations can benefit players--so how does a game in 2022 get used as your measuring stick?

But how many chances do you want to give the guy? By this logic why don't we keep PJ Walker too. New coaches could benefit him couldn't they? 🤔

No I get it.  I even said that his bad rep is earned--

PJ does not have that first round pedigree, but yes, they could benefit him.  Darnold has the God-given tools to be a great QB---his trouble is processing.  Can that be taught?  Yep.   Has he learned it yet? Nope.

A coach can teach him until he's blue in the face the coach isn’t the one behind center. We need to draft our own guy we didn't take Darnold it is not up to us to rehabilitate him when he's now entering his sixth season.

Funny you should mention...

I wouldn't read too much into any of this. I'd be quite surprised if Reich or Fitterer don't reset the QB room completely minus Corral. Both men have seen seasons derailed and their job security potentially threatened due to the position turning into a catastrophe. If the status quo were the plan or acceptable moving forward for Tepper I would have to think he would have just hired Wilks 🤷‍♂️

SO you are saying that the coach and his system makes no difference?  You would rather roll the dice on a rookie than a young NFL QB with starting experience?  You think a QB in the Jets/Rhule system for five years has shown you all you need to know, and that with better coaching and surroundings, he will still suck?   By the way, you are picking and choosing the points you want to argue.  I did say, Some are hard on Darnold and rightly so.

I am considering realistic options and risks the team must take to move forward.  It is no secret that the better the supporting cast and coach, the better the QB will be.  I provided several examples of QBs with different coaches and systems that were labeled busts who turned it around in 2022.   How can you say that won't happen to Darnold?  You cannot. I never said he would improve, I said he could.  He has all the tools.  Throw in a coach (even though that coach is not under center with him) who helps him see things better, and his confidence and timing will improve.  That is human nature, it is coaching, and it is how players like Kurt Warner become Hall of Famers.

See this is why we can't have convos about the guy here. Kurt Warner? You are talking about the same QB who just concluded the season by putting up the worst single game passer rating in Panthers history. Worse than even Jimmy Clausen. Respect to you for standing firm on your position I guess but for me we can do better than Darnold in FA. Just my opinion.
