But I thought preseason performances meant nothing??  Everyone could see how bad the basic fundamentals of pass blocking were, preseason or not.  At least the staff isn't hiding or downplaying that poo needs work.

Totally the wrong way to think about it.  Preseason performances are EVERYTHING - especially for guys on the bubble.

Preseason RESULTS mean nothing.

Our starting line last year was pretty solid and I am having a hard time believing we regressed so much in one off season.

Maybe they bought into the Koolaid that they were a solid group and didn't put a good effort out there. If the next preseason game we don't see major improvement than I am sure many will start heading towards the panic button.

The O-LINE must be a priority every year with Young.  We cannot nickel and dime hoping to find a diamond in the rough.  We can't have Chandler or Bell or any other project out there.

If we nickel and dime this line we just wasted another first round QB career.

Not just first round, but the #1 pick in the draft QB's career is wasted.

If you pick a QB #1 in the draft, you have to give him everything he needs to succeed. He is the player that determines your fate. That's why Ron pissed my off so much. Should have just drafted Von Miller if you were gonna ignore WR and OL, and just stack up on RBs, DTs and CBs.

True

With Young being so undersized the offensive line has to be top tier every season. We try to roll with the crap we've put out there during Cam's time we are going to get Young killed.

    • And really, it should be 4 reasons with the last one being that there were ZERO other offensive weapons on that team in 2024, opposing defenses only had to worry about one player all year long and they constantly double and triple teamed him right off the snap all season.  In 2023, we still had Jacob Cowing who had 90 catches that year and was drafted by the 49ers last year, so teams couldn't just send everyone after T-Mac on every passing down.
    • I wonder if the Hornets view Kon and McNeeley more as forwards and plan to ship off Green/Okogie/Smith for center help. I hope they don’t plan to ship off Sexton as I like what he brings to the team. (2) G - Ball, Mann, Simpson (two-way) (3) G - Sexton, Dinwiddie, Connaughton (3) F - Miller, Knueppel, McNeeley, James (two-way) (3) F - Bridges, Williams, Salaun (3) C - Diabate, Kalkbrenner, Plumlee
    • 3 main reasons he was better in 2023 and none of them concern me for his NFL prospects 1. Totally new coaching staff that was a massive downgrade and had god awful play calling and designs, the entire fan base was ready to run the coaching staff out of town a month into their first season and the play caller ended up getting changed because it was so bad. 2. Along with the staff downgrade, his QB played significantly worse after being the Pac 12 Freshman of the Year in 2023.  Constantly missed T-Mac when he was wide open, lost out on a number of TDs and a good amount of yardage, half the time T-Mac still almost made miraculous catches on the bad passes too. 3. He hurt his ankle over the summer and missed all of fall camp only to return to practice a few days before the season started and I think he had to deal with it all season long and was slightly limping at times mid season too, but kept fighting through it to still be a 1st team All American.
