Jake Delhomme would suck as a back-up!

I've noticed a few posters claim "Jake would be a great back-up!"...No...Keeping Jake would be like Raiders fans saying "Let's keep JaMarcus Russell as a back-up!" I think people forget the main purpose of a #2. Your back-up is supposed to be your future or a solid guy that won't win or lose games for you. Jake has the option to totally tank games himself.

Paying a back up 13 mil is stupid. Knowing the system is a stupid excuse...Moore and McCown know the system fine. Also, no one is taking in account Jake's feelings on starting. You really think he wants to ride the bench. All Jake would be is a distraction to the players and fanbase. Sadly, Jake has the chance of staying based on his contract and JR potentially being cheap. But, we can find better back-ups than Jake. He is done.

the panthers would be better off cutting their losses now, even though all they needed to do was let him play out his original contract, which would've happened if they didn't give him that retarded extension.

you're going to eat the money but let this be a lesson to you in the future.

yeah--- we wouldnt want someone who knows the whole offensive playbook in and out, has the respect of the players, and has experience at the position.

terrible idea....

yes all that playbook knowledge and experience really gave him the upper hand this year when he was overthrowing wide open recievers over the middle and chucking dead ducks at opposing DBs.

Someone said this earlier "Taking a 1 Million dollar hit is worth the risk of cutting Delhomme"

Jake's days are gone, he will not provide this team, especially Matt's confidence any kind of comfort.

Kinda like Romo and Bledsoe, if Dallas can get the point the Panthers better get the point.

I guess being able to actually throw the ball to your own team is not important.

Getting rid of Jake and eating that much money is stupid. He is already guaranteed to get most of the money due to him. There is no guarantee that he will suck next year just like there was no guarantee he would do well this year based on the last 6 years. He is the definiton of a back-up. An experienced veteran who knows the offense and can win a few games for you if needed. Most of you wanting to dump him are afraid he might start again and want to ease your worries. He will likely be here next year because there isn't a cap. Now 2011 is another thing altogether. But then again football may not be here in 2011.

    • In 2023 their roster wasn’t stacked. They nailed the poo out of the 2023 draft and since they knew Davis Mills wasn’t the guy, they tanked properly to get pick 2. They also took Cleveland’s ridiculous offer for Watson unlike us with Burns. Houston received enough draft capital to jump up to 3 while picking up the right guys in Anderson and Stroud. The Texans were not stacked or better than us in 2023. They had 11 total wins from 2020 to 2022. They didn’t have a terrible front office so they made sure they got their QB of the future while tanking well and getting more draft picks. They are a textbook study of what we should have done in 2022/2023 offseason even though people in here still think tanking is a bad word and our culture would be bad if we were the Texans. We literally had the chance to be the Texans right now and fuged it up.
    • Lol. This kills me. If Thielen is our most reliable WR, that’s a problem. We’ve spent two 1sts and found a gem of an UDFA in our last two drafts above and beyond the trading DJ Moore and multiple 1sts and 2nds for Young. Thielen isn’t going to be part of any future we have and if we can’t survive losing him for a 4th, that says more about us needing a new QB and another 2 WRs. After our past 3 drafts, that’s better not be the case. Either we’ve got the young WRs and QB or we don’t. Keeping Thielen at age 35 shouldn’t be a priority unless you are saying Legette, TMac and Young can’t produce without him.
    • So where would Tank and Nico be on this team's depth chart? At least 1 and 3 with TMac. 1 and 2 if TMac needs a little time to adjust.
