Jake Delhomme would suck as a back-up!

ORLY?

QB Rating = 59 WITH a completely healthy offense.

Wherein Moore in the past 2 games is average a rating of 131 and 3tds 0ints. This minus 2 (some would say Otah as well) all-pros, at LT (most important passing blocker as it protects the blindside) and RB (Dwill is IMHO the best RB in the league, homer I know).

Jake is washed up. I said it after the Cards loss and again after ever game this year. Yeah he can put together a good game ever now and then but just as likely he turns the ball over 3 or 4 times. I want a guy at backup that has potential is young and mobile.

If you can develop him you then can become the Pats and produce a 2nd round pick from a guy you got in the 7th. I really like what I have seen out of Troy Smith and think he would be an excellent #2 and maybe in a fair competition beat out Moore.

I like the way we went after a RG last year. Sign a bunch of guys with talent that maybe have not got a shot or struggled in a different system for cheap.

Backups do not get a multi-year, multimillion dollar contract.

Mccown, and Feely can hand of the ball just as good as Jake. Get Over It.

The multi year contract is water under the bridge. IF they were deciding today they wouldn't be giving it to him but they already did. Neither McCown or Feeley will be here based on what I have heard. So again if you are going to pay him already you might as well as get some use out of him rather than just throw it away.

Moore has played well and deserves to start in my opinion but this is not what we are discussing so why bring it up? We are talking backup only and in that role jake would be fine and we already committed money we will lose already one way or the other.

This is not about bringing Jake back as the starter simply the best way to salvage the situation as it stands. For me you start Moore, keep Jake as the backup and bring in a FA or a draft choice to compete for the third position or the number 2 if Jake continues to struggle.

I was addressing what you said here

has been bad this year but he is not nearly as bad as portrayed by all you haters.

Whether or not you think Moore should start you think Jake should back him up which means in the event of an injury you still think, after this atrocious season he's had that he can still lead an NFL offense up to an acceptable standard.

Problem with the backup is that he is one injury from starting. Who wants to bring in an upcoming young talent who is unproven and turn over the reigns if Moore goes down? Remember that that 7th rounder that Ne developed sat on the roster as long as Moore did.

What has Troy Smith done? His rating this year is a 21.

Keep throwing out all these backups who would be available and cheap and so much better than keeping Jake.

Who knows what will happen. Again he is available, paid for, and as good as a lot of other backups.

I can name backups until the cows came home that are better then Jake at this point in his career.

So lets see a guy that has potential to be good or bad or guy that is just bad? Jake isn't getting any younger. His physical skills are diminishing and lets face it he wasn't the most gifted passer to begin with. I want no QB that can put up 6 TO in a game all by his lonesome. And whats bad is those types of performances happened more often then even his average days.

True, and there are many low priced rookies or second year prospects out there than can hand the ball off as good as anyone. They also have an upside of possibly improving as starter or trade material.

And really this discussion is useless because Jake will be back here I suspect. And wishing it wasn't so or going around trying to name backups who would be better is a waste of time. He is under contract and guaranteed 13 million bucks. He is going nowhere.

    • That's likely going to tell the story. He'll have two weeks to prepare, so no excuses.
    • You don't rotate offensive linemen dude shown me one time thats happened for us that wasnt because of a player leaving due to injury or a jumbo package ill wait.
    • I didn't say I thought throwing it was a bad decision, I said I thought not running those 3-5 yard routes to pick up the 1st down wasn't a great call.  Yes the play worked out, but I didn't love the play call, it's like when a bad shooter is taking a 3 and you're yelling "no no no" as they're going up and then they make it so it worked out. That's still gambling on them to make the play and I take no issue with that. But I just went and watched the play again, we had T-Mac and XL running downfield crossing routes, Coker went in motion behind the LOS and then moved up a yard or two after the snap but not even past the LOS, Sanders chipped the DE and then ran a drag route right long the LOS. The play worked out, but I don't really like that particular play call and route tree with the game on the line on a 4th and 2.  If you want to send one route downfield as an option that's fine, but there were only 2 realistic target options with that route tree and they were both 15-20 yards downfield. This is just before Bryce is going to throw it.   You have 2 players off screen downfield, one player who ran a route that never had a chance to get open and didn't even get to the 1st down line, another player just at the line to gain but late in the route because of a chip (and the worst pass catcher of the 4). Do you really think that was a "good play call" in that situation?
