It appears the Columbus Blue Jackets are open for business.

General manager Jarmo Kekalainen is willing to listen to trade offers for forward Patrik Laine and defenseman Ivan Provorov, reports TSN's Darren Dreger.

Teams are also very interested in captain Boone Jenner, but the Blue Jackets are highly unlikely to move him, Dreger added.

Laine's season has been riddled by injuries and inconsistent play, as he's been limited to just six goals and three assists in 18 games. The sniping winger also had an unsuccessful stint playing center.

The 2016 No. 2 pick averaged 37 goals per 82 games during the first four seasons of his career with the Winnipeg Jets. Since joining Columbus during the 2020-21 campaign, he's averaged 30 goals per 82 contests but hasn't played more than 56 games a season. The 25-year-old is signed through 2025-26 with an $8.7-million cap hit.

Provorov, meanwhile, was just acquired this offseason from the Philadelphia Flyers as part of a three-way trade involving the Los Angeles Kings. He's recorded 23 points in 46 games for Columbus while logging 22:48 per contest. Provorov has produced strong underlying offensive numbers, but his defensive metrics have been poor.

-----------------------------------------------------

Laine's game is something to behold when he's on, but what a trainwreck for a teammate. Any lockerroom he's in is a mess. Couple that with a very down season and the Jackets are carrying an $8.7M salary thru the 25-26 season. He's on IR now.

Laine entered the NHL players assistance program…. Out indefinitely. Not sure if he’d be back before a the deadline now.

No to Laine imo. How many games is he going to miss? Guy is talented but misses 1/3 of games per year.

No way I am even suggesting a move for Laine. Like I said, he's ruined each of the teams he's played for.

telling y’all. We can’t sit back and not make a big move. We have to push the chips in if we want to win a cup or it’s gonna be another year with the same result.

May be right there Cucks already had a strong team

At some point we just can’t keep kicking the can. We are gonna start losing good players over the years.   Gotta make that splash now.

Ya no. 1st, 4th and 3 players(including a 40 goal player last year) for a half season rental.

Ya no. Why do we have to go over this every year? Big splashes don’t win cups. Every “big splash” was out by the end of the second round last year.

In fact, the only two in-season trades last year of any note that made it to the Stanley Cup were Barbashev and Quick.

Barbashev was an injury hole-plug rental(Blues cap casualty), who was traded for a single, yes one single, prospect.

Quick was a goalie hole-plug rental, who didn’t even play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, sitting backup to Hill after Brossoit was injured.

Florida couldn’t/didn’t even make an in-season trade.

So no, big moves and splashes don’t win cups. Especially in this constrained Covid cap era(which hopefully is going bye-bye next year).

Every team who won the cup since Tampa did it in the bubble has used the LTIR cap cheat.

    • It's amazing how much yall can say the same things over and over and not annoy yourselves with it.
    • If you only look at measurables, Mingo and Legette might seem similar.  But when you actually look at them and watch them play, they aren't close to the same.   And this is coming from someone who is skeptical about Legette, although ultimately I believe he will work out.  I've just always disagreed with the comparisons to Mingo.   Mingo tests better than he plays/runs, whereas Legette plays/runs as well as he tests.
    • As bad as things were with the Panthers last year, we still had 4 other games outside of the 2 we won that we came very close to winning.  Could throw the Falcons game in there too, it was tied going into the 4th. I'm not really sure what to expect this year.  I don't think we'll make the playoffs.  However, we play in a very weak division where no team has a standout QB.  On paper, our OL should be good, and could be great if Ikem improves.  That alone could help mask a lot of problems on offense.  Should allow us to run the ball better.  Even if Bryce doesn't improve, the OL should at the very least give him more time to make the easy throws underneath and let a guy like Legette work his magic after the catch. And I think this defense in a 2nd year with Evero should, at the very least, be in the top 16.  I'm expecting our run defense to be as good as it has been in years. I think this team could push for 7-8 wins.  But it could also finish with 2 wins again.  That is just how the league works.  Jets offense was miserable last year, and yet they still won 7 games.   We won't really get a good feel of it until after the preseason, and even then, who knows.
