Deuce re-signing w/ Saints, Chase Daniel anyone??

from ProFootballTalk.com:

A league source tells us that veteran running back Deuce McAllister will be rejoining the Saints in time for Saturday's home playoff game against the Cardinals. The Saints could easily clear a roster spot by cutting quarterback Chase Daniel, who was signed two weeks ago for the regular-season finale, given that quarterback Drew Brees was given the day off. McAllister was released by the Saints in the offseason, and he has since signed with no one. He has a four-game suspension hanging over his head, given his membership in the StarCaps six.

not sure why they are bringing him back though...

UPDATE: 1) its official 2) Daniel will be retained. they placed a DT on IR to make room.

Another Update: Deuce will not be playing, only leading the team on the field and will be inactive.

I would give Case Daniel a look, simply because the Saints seem somewhat interested. He is like a luxury to them who they'd like to have, but not at the expense of other more pressing needs. They're probably are willing to gamble that he will still be there, if and when they decide to throw him a bone.

Sirius NFL stated they thought it was for 2 reasons.....1 Duece has meant a lot to the city/organization and are just brining him on b/c they want to do something nice for him (even though he isn't needed) and 2. The dome reaction from fans when AZ comes to town. They said they had reports it was strictly a "symbolic" move.

once he's introduced pre-game, you'll understand why. If all he does is stand on the bench and wave a towel, it'll be enough.

i'm sure he'll be a good guy to have around when they are picking themselves off the floor because they just lost to the cards.

he's known plenty of disappointment being a saints player for so long so he'll be able to help them through it.

    • Right and I think we can have a conversation about that. But even with the scheme he should still be able to muster more than 1.5 sacks right? I mean DJ Johnson played in Evero's scheme too but that didn't stop us from calling him a bust. Scourton didn't seem to have trouble flashing. There can be different things true at one time.
    • I assume you are quoting my still. If so, I don't know what your argument is since mine was simply showing a play where Bryce scored a TD against the Rams in the playoffs where another poster used a similar still of Herbert's line to defend his poor performance last night. Like I said, Herbert is a better QB but Bryce wins the game last night for the Chargers. It simply is something he does better than Herbert and would play to his strengths. Someone even said earlier Chargers only win 1 or 2 games this year if Bryce was their QB which is so absurdly laughable it wasn't even worth trying to address. I mean this thread is literally called "Bryce Young is the worst QB in Panther's History" so I understand there is no objective arguments to be had here but I found that amusing.
    • I think his knee would make a good reason to switch to guard IF he returns.  Half don't.  Half of those don't last too long.  The strain on a knee (320lb man) vs speed rushers is more substantial.  So I would keep him if I could on a small contract (he will make $17.5 in 2026 fully guaranteed) and think of him as a possible guard for the post Lewis/Hunt era.  Knee injuries in big men are not invitations to invest in them.
