Being that i'm not a salary cap guru I really can't say. Unless you want to throw all salary cap ramafications of cut players aside and just cut willy-nilly?

Good point. While there isn't a salary cap for 2010, it isn't like you can just cut wildly without having ramifications down the road when presumably there will be a cap.

If this were Madden though instead of reality then you could play along and not worry about it.

just cutting willy-nilly I would say...

-Jake - thanks for the good times but you aren't a backup or competition

-Moose- thanks for the good times but in another year you will be too painful to watch and we don't need a TE playing WR

-Jarrett - thanks for the good times and now go to an offense that will let you play like a fairy yet take advantage of your hands.

*Charles Godfrey - congrats on a stong finish and noticeable improvement....as you were on pace to make the list but can stay....but I still felt the need to call you out based on 85% of your career starts being so pathetic (but you are young).

Perfect example of why you need salary money and contract info to make decisions. All of these sound good on the surface but you wouldn't make any of these moves.

Moose is not under contract for 2010 so you can't cut what you don't have.

Jake gets paid whether he plays or not. No need to cut him until the ned of prseason or camp if at all.

Jarrett and Godfrey are on their rookie contracts and are very cheap. You wouldn't cut either unless you thought they weren't good enough to be 3rd or 4th in depth. And IMO they are clear good enough for a roster spot.

    • I think what makes a qb elite is when every week you think your team has a chance to win because of your qb. No matter who they play, they always make you feel like you have a chance. I have not gotten that feeling once while watching Bryce.
    • Great point!  The quotes from O'Connell about teams failing rookie Qbs and the one about how you coach them after 3 picks and a loss were really interesting.  To me, an idiot with a keyboard, it means NFL teams need to be patience if they are going to have quality QB play. So bringing me to Bryce, is there some benefit to being patient.  I know it's not a particularly popular opinion around here, and even I am having a hard time wrapping my head around it.  Most QBs, when benched lose their confidence.  It takes a LONG time to get it back.  Bryce on the other hand was benched, and came back a different player.  I feel like that's worth a lot more than the physical talents of a guys like AR15... I think Bryce has the mental make up to be a good NFL QB.  His problem will always be his tools.  Now it's on coaching to work around that.  Bryce is more physically gifted than late years Drew Brees (low bar, I know).   While I'm content to see what happens this season, there's a small part of me that says...maybe we should see what grows?  (let me duck and hide from the well earned vitriol the Panthers have earned). Then again, I agree that some guys get it while others just don't.  I'm still hoping for the Panthers and Bryce to find success this season.  But if not, I won't be too surprised if the plug is pulled and there is a restart.
