Does playing in North Carolina suck as a professional athlete?

This is a good point - I didn't have a car when I visited Charlotte last year (took the bus - and boy was that an experience...). All of the 'great' BBQ places were in the suburbs so completely inaccessible to me. I was very disappointed.

As an outsider looking in (I've been to San Diego, LA, Santa Barbara, San Mateo, San Francisco, NY, Charleston, Savannah and Miami), Charlotte is a very beige city. It doesn't really have anything going for it, but it doesn't really have any massive downsides either - it just is.

For me personally that's every city. Aside from historical stuff, every city is the same to me.

Charlotte has no culture. No diversity. That's part of the problem. It's the definition of bland.

I have to go up to NYC for a meeting on the 8th. I'm so excited about going that I'm flying in and out the same day. Been working on this for two years now so very excited for the meeting but that's all NYC offers for me. Looking forward to getting my piece of that pie though. If this goes well it'll be a seven figure deal for my business.

I left NC for Boston, but I will be back soon. I may do some out-of-state contracts again, but I would rather buy a place in NC. It's just home.

To your point, I think most young, flashy players would prefer to play in the bigger markets, but the Panthers could also be treated as a short-term living situation while they actually call another state home.

But yes, keep trashing NC to outsiders. We need less people moving to our beautiful state. Because it will be less beautiful with 10 million more residents.

This is bullish-t North Carolina and Charlotte has a higher quality of life than a lot of major places. It’s just the Panthers and the Hornets been f I kin up recently. The Canes are great… David Tepper has a lot of re-evaluating to do towards himself. He is the problem when come to winning for the Panthers. Hire the right people and step back and let them work….

No one is saying there is a correlation. They are saying people would rather be signed to play in those places than in Charlotte. I get that you guys love your state and city ... hell I lived in CLT for 18 years. But replace Charlotte with: Oklahoma City, Memphis, Jacksonville, Baltimore, Indianapolis, etc. Now ... defend in the same way.

Well Brooklyn 4.0 move back to Brooklyn because I’ve live and visit a lot of sh-t holes like Brooklyn . If it’s excitement you desire go back to those shitty ass places. We talking about wins that has absolutely nothing to do with a location of a team.

Charlotte being an airport hub and close to the mountains and beach is great.  The walkability, sprawl and character leaves a lot to be desired.  Some decent hubs have popped up around town but it still has a ways to go.

If I was a longer term higher end player, I'd probably rank something like this (blue means I've lived there):

1. New York City

2. Boston

3. Chicago

4. Minny (Mad underrated IMO)

5. Bay Area (Not SF proper)

6. Seattle

7. Southern Cal

8. Denver (Summit County & beyond is great, but not a Denver (city) fan.  Would be in Boulder or around Evergreen).  It's gotten way claustrophobic for my taste.

9. Miami (just can't stand the heat)

10. DC (Hate the sprawl but there are nice hubs that aren't terrible)

Underrated: Green Bay (Get your own country estate, Door County in the backyard, the Northwoods, Madison and MKE aren't far)

Vegas, Philly and Pitt would be fun.  No complaints but not top choices.

Wouldn't really matter with the rest. Whichever paid best minus Tampa & Jacksonville.  Cleveland and Detroit aren't as terrible as some would think but would be pretty boring. Hard pause with any remaining city in Florida or Texas.

What does that have to do with Charlotte being bland? Congrats on the money though!

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
