A few extra mil is not going to make him a problem.

So you would sign him for 28mil a yr but add an extra 2 mil which would be 30 mil a yr and now we can't make moves?

Cmon Jimmy lets be realistic.

We will see where he lands.  Right at 30 might work we just have soooo many holes on this roster right now.  Looks like Maxx is at 24, 27, 27 over the next 3 years and might be the better overall player out of the two.  Obviously signing a few years early is the right call on these premium positions.

You have to have the convo in terms of guaranteed money.  What is your number there.

we have to build an entire new offense.  From OL to WR to TE to RB and fix all the issues with our D.   And literally nothing matters if we don’t invest and grow Bryce.

We aren’t in a position to be foolish with our cap given our massive problems.   Burns flat out doesn’t deserve Mack/Bosa money.   And while I could stomach him resetting the Chubb/Reddick tier he isn’t even as good as them.

Hopefully something happens soon either sign him or trade him. I'm tired of discussing this guy and his contract status.

He's not getting Bosa money! Why do you guys keep saying this. He's likely to have something in the top 5 of highest paid DE's just not top 2 DE money. He will be below those guys which is fair imo.

I'm not a GM I don't really care for the numbers. I just want something done that is fair to both sides.

You are talking Bosa tier players.  Bosa simply reset the top of that market.

Bosa, Mack, Garrett, etc is where you just put him.    He doesn’t deserve Mack money. Garrett money.   It’s not just Bosa.

You are talking 100 million guaranteed.  That’s where you are putting Burns.  He doesn’t belong there.   You basically cut that in half to get to the tier Burns falls in.  They are in the 50s

I dont necessarily believe that to be true as Burns isnt getting double teamed all that often as far as I can tell.  Maybe there is a next gen/pff stat that shows his rate.

Just going by what my eyes tell me. He doesn't have to get double teamed most plays if they have a good right tackle... and remember he's playing not on the blind side most times, so he's generally not up against their best, though there is often a TE in the area.

But he doesn't get chipped as much as you'd think, as mostly the RB or TE there goes out into the flat right by him. Makes me wonder, when was the last time Burns got a pass defensed?

But... let's face it, we got spoiled years ago watching what a young Julius Peppers could and would do in every single game. For all the hype out there, there isn't a single player in the league that is disruptive now as Pep was in his first five years here. He freaking did it all, double teamed with a TE helping out.

You do realize that overpaying a player affects the team’s ability to acquire other FAs right?

Who is overpaid on the roster right now?

Didn't know Burns is holding up money for other FA's.

Also curious how teams like the Bengals have a competitive roster and they have the highest paid QB in the league.

Interesting how people can't explain this but because Burns wants 30mil he's not affordable.

Tee Higgins won't be a Bengal because he has to get paid. Between him, Chase and Burrow, you can't tie up half your cap for 3 players.

It's not that paying Burns is going to make a huge difference. By year 3 of that contract we might be average. Burns doesn't move the needle by himself. Acquiring 2 1sts, a 2nd and 30m in cap space to acquire talent to surround Bryce with someone other than Fitts making those decisions can move the needle.

They don't need Higgins.

Im also not sure why they kept him. If he isn't in the longterm it would make sense to get something for him. For all we know they might actually bring him back. Never know in these kind of situations.

They are in win now mode.  They most certainly need Higgins right now.
