That plan was for building the offensive skill positions in order to draft a #1 QB in 2024.  Change of tactics now because we put the cart in front of the horse.  Colossal f-up this past draft.

You all know I'm pretty active here.  Anyone recollect me being excited or even posting about a) the trade to #1 or b) drafting Bruce Young?

That's because I wasn't excited--AT ALL--about either of the moves, so I avoided posting about it.

No you were spot on. I think your strategy still applies. Get some talent on offense and if Young still struggles our new HC can draft his guy and actually have something for him to work with. Throwing a QB with an injury history like Penix in this mess will land him on IR in my opinion.

The first order of business is to fix the oline. He should be able to make plays if he has time for the plays to actually develop. My man has a clock in has head right now. He knows he has limited time to get rid of the ball, or he'll be on his back. Once that's at a respectable level, then look for playmakers. If both can be done in one offseason, great. But, nothing is more important than protection.

We need a center and BC healthy ASAP. To me Bozeman is the biggest issue aside from the constant change of shitty players at LG. We have to get some playmakers though. We have no outside WR right now. Mingo is better suited in the slot or perhaps for a Debo Samuel type role until AT is done. Hollywood Brown would be a nice FA signing and a player like Tez in the draft would help.

A good Center would take alot of pressure off of Bryce too. Cam had the luxury of an all-pro level Center that could call/adjust the protection for him.

The interior oline has to be the priority and should be easier to upgrade than Tackles. Bryce's height makes inside protection paramount. Remember that was Brees' kryptonite. Well heck, no QB can overcome interior and outside pressure on the same play. No where to escape or step up into the pocket.

I doubt theyre drafting a QB with R2 pick its probably smarter to build the team up first and then draft a QB in 2025.

While I agree with you from a logical standpoint, If Pennix is there it'd be hard to pass up on him. We need someone who can push the ball downfield. It's hard to have an effective passing game when Defenders have no respect/fear that the ball is ever going more than 7-10 yards in the air.

I was in favor of doing what you suggested for the 2023 season. Then try to move up if needed to nab a guy in the 2024 draft class. I would have been content to sign a guy like Dalton to serve as a bridge in 2023-2024 and keep PJ Walker and some other guy to back him up until the franchise guy arrived.

    • Panthers cannot afford to overlook the defense anymore in the draft. I wouldn't  invest a number number one pick on a QB again in this draft...always a roll of the dice. To many areas of dire need. Choose Dl, Edge or LB for our first round pick. Add another Oline player in the middle rounds. No more PROJECTS or INJURED players please. The QB situation is dicey. Will he ever emerge due to his limited physical abilities or not? They obviously need a plan B on the roster. I hate to say it, but maybe a veteran like Winston for Canales to work with would be an option short term. This season is going down the drain fast.
    • I did not watch the game just the breakdowns. I haven’t watched any defensive stuff of us.    Obviously did not know that. But no designated Hail Mary thrower, Bryce remains alone at the ‘top’.
    • If we were a top offense, I’d agree but we aren’t so our chance of getting 3 2 pointers is basically 0. There were two calls. Go for 2, which I understand but don’t agree based on our futility, and the actual play call, which was awful both times. Play action fake with a leak out and/or rollout to increase the number of opportunities like a QB run in or multiple targets. We, unfortunately, limited ourselves to one chance and after the first run was stuffed you’d think we wouldn’t do the same thing twice but we did and got the same result.
