A Bleak Picture Concerning Bryce

I know the dysfunction is evident across the board, and Bryce is not responsible for that, nor is he responsible for the position he has been put in.  But it just hit me - when is the last time a rookie starting QB got his first year HC fired in year one?  I don't recall any if it's happened.

And that led me to think further...  I mentioned in another thread, despite having a shitty QB hand dealt to him in Indy, starting with Luck retiring, Reich showed well for himself overall there.  I said at worst, he is likely an average HC, so what happened here is a clear sign of how dysfunctional out organization currently is - and yes, it all falls on Tepper - but, I was thinking, if Reich and McCown couldn't figure out how to utilize Bryce with their vast experience as pro QBs, then we must prepare ourselves for the possibility that maybe he isn't salvageable.  And also, his chances of success just practically were chopped in half 11 games into his career, because it is proven that new staffs/FOs typically don't give much runway to QBs (and players in general) they inherit.  They aren't beholden to them, so if they're clearly not part of the solution, they are quick to be put on the chopping block.  Furthermore, as many, including myself, have been saying, we are now The New Old Browns...  look back at their QB carousel over the years and look at how much turnover there was between QBs and HCs.  It's not coincidental...  their ownership wanted to win and win now, so they went through top pick after top pick after stop gap after stop gap after HC after HC.  The synergy is there - if I'm a new HC and I didn't draft this guy, hr is on a short leash, and if he doesn't perform, my chance to really put my stamp on things is by bringing in my own guy.  If he fails, I'm fired and then he'll be traded or released in a year or so too.  We saw it time and again...  that's where we are now.

And so, that being said, I really got to thinking why was it so difficult, if Bryce was touted for having these otherworldly traits, to get the offense looking even just functional? And I thought back to guys like Canty, Olsen, etc., who have brought up how the offense is really hindered by our inability to get under center at all.  So, what if Bryce just really can't do it?  That would explain why Reich didn't want him, but tried to make the best of it.  It would explain why the offense, no matter what adjustments they tried to make, just couldn't find its footing.  It's why the offense didn't look much different between Reich's and Brown's versions.  Perhaps that's why they even had Dalton sub in earlier in the year for the sneak because it was whispered at the time that Bryce couldn't even take the snaps under center to do that.  And if that is the case, man oh man,  this is really just the beginning...

I said earlier in the year, we were likely at the very bottom of a very deep hole and it was going to take a long time to dig out of it as a result of the capital traded and the amount of flubs we made with personnel, but boy, it just keeps getting deeper.

On the Browns comparison, Bryce may be the next Johnny Manziel. The only thing that’s keeping me from completely declaring him to be a bust already is how terrible our offensive line and receivers are. However, I think he has a low ceiling and needs a lot of help to be a guy who even makes it to the playoffs.

It's not a good situation for sure, but it's not world-ending either.

But I maintain that C.J. Stroud would also struggle in Reich's offense. Bryce may well turn out to be a bust, but that doesn't mean Reich was ever going to be the answer. Maybe Bryce is the problem; maybe Reich was.

All I'm saying is both of these things can be true.

But is that fair saying BY got Reich fired.. The whole offense in General did that right??

Urban got himself fired for being a general douchebag and a cooze hound in public despite being married. His rookie QB did not get him fired. The coping here is simply out of control.

CJ might struggle, but you would see potential. Bryce hasn't shown any potential to be anymore than a backup QB

Your opinion.. Love Stroud but at some point ppl have to admit that Houston built a better team and the other players should get some credit..

      To start with, you wouldn’t want to count up that value chart. You would see quickly where that is headed. But you basically did a quantity comparison, while ignoring quality.  I am looking at 2023 as the start, because it became all about Bryce.  2023 you have 4 picks plus DJ Moore for offense vs 2 (80 and 145) for defense.  2024 you got the 1st overall, the 32, the 46 and the 101 for offense vs 72, 157, 200 and 240 for defense. Leave the FA IOL out of it. Which was a crazy big  investment. But it wasn’t draft.  Anyway, that is basically 4 top 100 picks for offense and 4 picks for defense in 2024. Except they were 2 first rounders, the second rounder, and the 4th was really high at 101. Vs 72 and day three stuff. Please….  Second quoted/bolded… See you think we hate Bryce. That isn’t it at all. It is nice easy way to characterize us and discredit our talking points though.   Me, I do mostly hate watching him play. But I don’t hate the person. I hate the hell out of the stanning.  It started with the very first question I asked about his footwork, arm strength, and size. Height being the principle objection. I never even got to the durability factor. There was plenty without factoring that in.  But there was rabid opposition to even asking the question of what a couple of small fractions of a second extra closing time would do for the defenders.  What the extra time it takes to flip the hips would do vs a pass rush or on the other end after the ball is in the air. Split second more for recognition where it is going for the DBs.  The tippy toe backpedal.  That poo was a mess and it has always been mess but no Bryce fan wanted to hear it. “Go get another team to root for”. “It worked in the SEC it will be fine in the NFL you don’t know football you are just a hater”.  It got worse when the real games started. It has never stopped. It is nice that many people have left that train so there is less abuse but it hasn’t stopped.  So whatever…

      Whatever school you attended, I don't know and I don't care, but I would suggest demanding a refund.    Something was completely missed there.

      The draft capital since since 2023 has in no way been pretty even.  Especially when you zero in on day 1 and day 2 draft picks.  Draft capital has vastly gone toward the O over D.
