Desirability of the HC job

I know a lot of the so-called fans are hoping for the worst possible outcome, just so they criticize Tepper more, so you have this narrative that we won't be able to attract a top coach, but the fact is these jobs are rare.

Is there always a chance there are a few certain coaches that might not want to coach here, maybe, but that can happen with other teams also.  Either way they should be able to come up with some qualified candidates.   The important part is picking the correct one.

Luckily some in the national media understand this:

The first thing to always remember is that Head Coaches have BIG EGOs.  Aspiring to the position means believing that YOU are the difference maker.  The role of other people is to give you what you want.  The Panthers job is one where you are going to be paid well and get what you want.  All you have to do is win.  And with a BIG EGO, why would you doubt YOU are going to win if given everything you want?

Hoping for failure or just expecting more of the same?

It's looking like a circus already. I would love to say Ben Johnson would save us but he already walked before firing the HC 10 games into his first season. That's hard to imagine even if I still wish it.

Also the link never mentioned any names specifically. 'A lot of people'. Greg Olsen so far came out as one. So who are the other people? Harbaugh seems like an obvious name even if he had his call with Tepper last year that didn't go far. Lots of certainty yet not one name yet.

Here are some names thrown around from Josh Klein according to Vegas…I like MacDonald as a young dark horse.

Honestly I would be ok with taking a stab on the “middle of the road” hire. Find the guy that works for you, not who espn wants to sell as a story line.

I think the plan is to keep fittererrererer, tabor(hes rumored to step down as HC at seasons end, but remain ST), and evero. Basically a whole new offense staff. The guy thats willing to do that will not be of the jim harbaugh or bill Belichick level. It will be some new lackey/tepper yes man. Plus you have to fix byce young........

Thats one giant mess of issues and BS.

The only other solution is total wipe.

I also heard that this coaching staff was the highest paid in the NFL.

It probably was the highest paid and one reason Tepper probably was upset with how things have gone. Reich said in his presser thanks for Dave for allowing him to go out and hire who he wants because money was no object for the staff.

No salary Cap in coaches Tepper will just have to dump even more money on a candidate (nobody's turning down 100m guerenteed)

What I heard is no new HC will take less than a 6 year contract, given teppers quick draw....... at least the smart and most wanted ones........

I have a hard time beliving Johnson wants to come here when he has his pick. I agree about MacDonald and he seems more reasonable expectstion. Not excited outside of Slowik maybe.

They would still have to sign up for the Tepper show. Who they can potentially get and who would come here is why I asked who the people the reporter was so excited and sure about. I get people would take the job but realistically there are 2 on that list i would like to see and I wouldn't hold my breath on one already.

He's burned over 100m in guarantees to Rhule and Reich...

I hope he let's an agency handle it.. but I'm sure he will have to back up the brinks truck

    • Bryce isn't a risk-taking gunslinger.  That's just QB DNA.  No one has ever said that is what we were drafting when we went that route.  That's my point.  That's not Bryce. Can you make Alex Smith throw deep? Sure.  He will occasionally.  In the reverse, can you ask Brett Favre to just take the easy layups? Sure.  He can in moments.  But in the end, they are what they are.  as I have said, Canales probably could win more games with PJ Walker.  And Bryce is a better overall QB than PJ.  PJ Walker would also have much worse games mixed in that Bryce would.
    • From what i see, Canales offense requires a QB that is willing to take chances to maximize the offense. XL is also the kind of receiver that needs a qb to be risky to bring out his full potential. Its just a matter of if Bryce is gonna be that QB.
    • Baker just played how Baker played.... everywhere but here. He is a risk taking gunslinger.  Always has been.  And last year was asked to be what he was.   Geno Smith was the best deep ball passer in the NFL his comeback season.  Wasn't even close that year.  Again, that's the type passer Canales has always been around in the offenses he has been part of.  The pass game that compliments the stubborn run is the deep chunk play pass game.   And that was his first investment with XL.  My continued point, is the same as going into last season.  It's a bad marriage going in.  The QB doesn't fit the scheme.  Again.  Carrol/Fox/Ron....all paired up their boring football with risk taking QBs.  And again, I'm fine if that is where we are going.  It's not my preference but that's not my argument.  I'm saying if we are doing that, we need a QB that matches it.
