this was an interesting one. surprised to see chop robinson there and if we lose burns this might not be a bad opportunity.

i usually try to get a WR early, but the way it was falling i didn't like the values there.

definitely broke me out of some drafting ruts i had gotten into.

Goal was to make the team more physical. Kingsley could fit either guard or maybe even LT. Sweat is a old school massive NT. Allen is a bruiser RB.  I think a two headed monster running game could help Young. Then weapons. Coker has outside WR speed and size. Theo and Jackson could work the middle of the field. Screenshot_20240216-215355.thumb.png.684cb53fb29d29cef738d2c9fea2cf16.png

This one made me laugh.

Adonai Mitchell @ 6'4

Johnny Wilson @ 6'6-7

Jared Wiley @ 6'7

I typically have been having one or two WRs under 6' (mcconkey, corley, thrash, wilson, cowing) and trying to pair them up with a tall target, but this was just too hard to resist.

A couple things I've noticed

If I don't pick a WR first, I typically end up regretting it. I never feel good about the way it falls after that. Usually it's Ladd, Adonai, or, on occasion, Brian Thomas Jr is there (and if he is I jump).

I e been going back and forth between going OL or defense with the 2nd pick, but find myself drawn more to defense lately.

Kris Jenkins is often a target there just because I'd love to see Brown with another huge terror on the interior and id also love to see another Kris Jenkins at DT. Seems like destiny.

I find myself more trying to get two LBs who are big-time tackle machines with that alpha dog mentality. I will grab either Cedric Grey or Jeremiah Trotter in the 2nd and then typically Tommie Eichenburg a couple rounds later or some other high tackle dawg complement for whoever gets picked earlier.

I'm just thinking that adding two terror tackling machines to add to Luvu would be great. I figure it would have to be appealing to Morgan as well and Evero probably wouldn't hate having a stacked LB corps managing the middle.

Whatever picks I have left (usually a few from trades) I just get the best OL I can find.

And if Jared Wiley is available I might try to grab him as well.

I like this one a lot. Revamp the WR group with athletes who can separate, take a flyer on a TE with freak size and add to the lines (including a familiar name)

your first five picks would be an insane haul

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.

    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
