I can't believe this came from Pat Yasinskas!

Like any football team, there’s a certain climate in which the players live. Under coach John Fox, players are expected to be company men -- noncontroversial, polished and active in the community. That works nicely for some guys. Take Minter and Rucker, for example. They were two good -- but far from great -- players. They followed the corporate tone, were active in the community and are now set for life in Charlotte simply because they are Mike Rucker and Mike Minter.

There have been certain players over the years who have resented how Fox and Richardson rewarded the guys who played strictly by their rules. And there have been many players over the years who have resented how receiver Steve Smith gets to play by his own set of rules and still gets rewarded.

Probably the best article ever written by Yas! Not sure if its just the way he is presenting the information but it was eye-opening to me.

Well Smith is really the heart of the panthers. He's way more than talented enough and he brings his lunch pail unlike other players on the team, so yea I'd cut him some slack.

well, Smitty got a lot of slack before he reached superstar status imo. Pretty sure he had already punched out a teammate and was kicking defenders in the head before he deserved too much slack.

If the practice squad kid or Ken Lucas had sucker punched Smitty, they'd be off the team. And possibly in jail.

    • In May of 2026, it looks like a challenging schedule...and it probably is.  I rarely listen to the "strength of schedule" conversations that light up social media this time of year. Each year teams improve and decline. I think there's chunks of the year we need to take care of business and the week 5 bye is not desired.  I do think if we don't hit the bye week at 3-1, it's going to be a major uphill battle given the schedule in front of us. This season falls on three people, regardless of schedule strength: Canales, Bryce, Evero.  Canales: Finally can truly coach all aspects of the team and not focus with gameday prep for OC duties anymore. He drives the bus and needs to get these guys in position to win each week. There's no way vets come in and put it on the line every week to watch our QB sh!t the bed (See: SF game last year). Bryce: Despite everyone's obsession with thinking Bryce is a guaranteed extension, I think this year will truly be his "prove it" year. If he comes out the way he has the past three years, I really don't see how vets and coaches can continue to put him under center long-term. He might play out that fifth year as the starter, but I think next offseason his long-term replacement is found. I also think there's no excuses with the weapons and commitment we've made on offense to insulate him with every possible weapon.  Evero: Best personnel he's had since he's been here...no excuses. Figure out how to blitz effectively. Figure out how to use CBs whose strengths are press/man. Figure out how to utilize a talented front-7 to get the hell of the field. Outside of FS and maybe....maybe ILB, there are few weaknesses on this unit.
    • Canales can never get his teams ready in the first week of the season so far. Hope that changes or Ben Johnson is going to take his azz to school.
