hurney said this about the QB position

Recommended Posts

um... i don't know if anyone else caught this, but this is what hurney said about the QB position...

"We all know we need consistent play at quarterback. I think what we've done is taken time and gone through the process. Competition always answers most of those questions," Hurney said. "Sometimes you let competition decide those things."

yeah, Matt Moore is definitely gonna get a chance to compete for the QB position... hellz yeah!

Trust me...this doesn't really mean much. Look for Hurney and Fox to address the position in the draft or FA if they really mean what they say. Actions speak louder than words. Everyone knows there will be "competition"...it is being forced on them.

In 2003, Fox said that the starter in game one would be based on production. Weinke was the most productive; Jake was second most productive; Peete produced a couple of first downs. Peete started. But, at least Fox had him on a short leash. I see Moore starting pretty soon if Jake struggles. It won't be like last year.

If Matt Moore outplays Jake and it is obvious in the preseason, then Jake still starts, it would be the dumbest move ever by the Panthers front office.

Still, I would not be totally surprised to see Jake as the starter. Watch jake in preseason, pad his stats with 3-5 yard passes, just to get his completion % high enough to shed blame. Then they will put Matt in with the second team(as usual) and base his performance off of that. If I see that garbage, I will know how that movie is going to end.

I just don't like it because training camp/scrimmach games/even preseason games don't mean ANYTHING. Jake can still throw a football, all of his problems are in his head. It's a no pressure situation, and we all know who Fox WANTS to start.

gonna be a long off season..

I didnt like this:

ON WHO THE PANTHERS STARTING QUARTERBACK WILL BE IN 2010: It's the end of February. I think it's way too early to answer that. Everybody knows how we feel about Jake (Delhomme). Matt (Moore) came in and played very well at the end of the year. I think that we just go through the process and see what happens.

It kinda sounds like Matt moore is going to have to beat jake, not the other way around

Given how bad Jake played and how well Matt played, I really believe that Fox could lose this team early in the season if he stays with Jake.

The other players respect and like Jake. However, their objective is to win. They know that Moore provided this last season. You saw alot more intensity and emotion in the Panthers after Jake went down. That was not by accident.

The other players were tired of playing their asses off and watching Fox trot Jake back out there time and time again to only see him give away the game.

If he is that dumb, he MUST go.

I usually laugh at or dismiss such speculation, but based on some rumours Moore isn't the most prepared or studious guy. He's never seemed to want to rise up to grab the starting job saying vague things abot being a team player, blah blah blah.

Maybe they hope to see him jump up and grab the job and show some leadership.

just a thought

if that is what you want to call it.....based on what Fox has said about Jake and Moore....there is no way Moore can beat Jake in Fox's eyes in a competition.

i think the only thing Moore lacks at this point is leadership. and i think that really has a lot to do with Jake still being there on the sideline. if he were the guy, then i think we'd see a much more fired up Matt Moore. i honestly think it comes down to whether or not Fox wants to take a chance on Moore. i mean, it's his last season here, if he wants to stick around here, he'd better take some chances. he's already shown that he's willing to take some chances by trading away future first round picks for Otah and Brown. so i'm gonna stop speculating and just wait and see.

    • If Henderson just got a concussion and will possibly/probably now miss next week as well, gotta think missing 2 games of stats at this point of the year might knock him out as he was only just entering the discussion the last few weeks anyways.  Same goes for Judkins going down today too, and Dart's god awful game likely removes him from the conversation as well. It will be interesting to see how the voters compare T-Mac and Egbuka if they end up with stats that are nearly identical. Egbuka burst onto the scene and put up the bulk of his stats early in the year when Baker was playing like the MVP front runner.  While T-Mac was just more consistent throughout the course of the full season (ex. Egbuka has 8 games of 42 yards or less, T-Mac has 4 of them, while T-Mac still scored 3 TDs in those 4 games, where Egbuka only scored 1 TD in his 8). It would be a shame if they put too much weight on the final game of the season if that ends up being the division decider, as I think T-Mac has had the better SEASON while Egbuka had a better peak output during that first month or so but way cooled off since. Maybe Warren goes off in the last 3 games (they still play tomorrow), but it does seem to be down to T-Mac and Egbuka right now.
    • Mitchell Evan’s put a block on someone that he drove them all the way out of bounds and to the bench. He absolutely destroyed the guy. He’s gonna be a beast for us if he keeps that up.
    • Yall... stop taking a sample size and projecting a role player into a permanent starter cuz he had a decent year after what, 5? Come on
