I don't get it, what would we gain by not announcing second interviews? Would that infer we want to hire someone whos available right now?

I’m not too sure either, maybe to get a leg up on someone else wanting to interview one of our candidates?

Well from that second tweet, it is suggested; to keep other teams in the dark, in terms of possible plans.   Even if you have set up a second interview set up, could run risk of what just happened with Titans and Callahan.

Least it's a possible theory

Johnson is the obvious front runner, but likely a long shot. Personally, I think all of the Canales hype is an intentional diversion until the Panthers satisfy the Rooney Rule since nobody else is really interested in him.

The big question is who is the diversion for?

Wonder if it could be Macdonald?  One of the guys being interviewed everywhere that we had for round 1.

Everyone and their grandma knows we've been interested in Ben Johnson, and that the Commanders are eyeing him, so there's not much to really dance around there.

Any word on Macdonald from your end?

I’d like to start hearing names for the staffs these guys would assemble. I get the Canales appeal but I feel like you’re hiring him, not really sure about the connections he’s built on back of his specific resume’.

Yeah I like Canales as well, probably not my first choice, I'd really like to make a run at Mike MacDonald if the Ben Johnson campaign doesn't work. I have a feeling that Tepper is aiming to really go all out for him, it makes no sense how quiet we are on the second interview fronts when he's pined over him for two years. I feel like if they lose Sunday, he may be waiting in SF with a stack of cash lol.

I’m interested in EEs potential staff, where does he snatch an OC from. He IS best friends with Nathaniel Hackett lol

I like Slowik’s San Fran connections and I like that McDonald is ravens ecosystem material along with having a cup of coffee with Harbaugh, but I’d need to see his offensive vision and connections and they need to be really good. I do feel like McDonald probably has the highest floor but the stat about every single team in the league switching OCs going back to the start of last season is absolutely outrageous. You have to have some offensive continuity and you have to have a strong offensive mind.

with the Morgan hiring I honestly don’t really like the idea of Canales. I don’t really respect Seattle organizationally and there’s way too much seahawk ethos in that bloc.

that said you can’t evaluate guys simply on the basis of where they cut their teeth, if you did then Morgan wouldn’t have a job here and Canales does provide a track record of success in the passing game so I would definitely support the hiring but I feel like with Slowik you’re getting that plus a healthy outside viewpoint from a successful coaching tree.

Yeah the OC poaching is definitely a concern, feels like you need to be constantly bringing along new guys to replace your current OC, but at times that feels unsustainable, not everyone is going to make a good playcaller, so eventually you will probably be in a bad spot like the Eagles after losing Steichen.

I guess I do view MacDonald as not only a brilliant defensive mind, but also a culture changer. I think I would put the Ravens up there with almost any organization, they seem to always be in contention, well run etc. I guess my main concern with him is how much of his success is the organization/ecosystem they have built. I feel like it's probably a lot easier to have success there, things are in control and not toxic, he probably hasnt faced half the issues he will face here in trying to change a culture, so I dont know how that will work out.

I guess if hes a good leader, he would sort it out.

my concern is that Tepper loves the Seahawks and is tantalized by the idea of stacking a bunch of Seahawks background guys together (especially after the lack of uniformity in the last bloc was considered a primary contributor to it’s failure.)

why would Tepper love the Seahawks? The “forward thinking” grandstanding they’re known for. Scott Fitterer muttering something in his interview about Microsoft was part of the reason he got hired.

seattle fluked into a great coach and a great QB and they dragged a lot of stupid drafting and dumb trades along with them for the duration of their stint there but to an outsider it looks like “wow what a well ran team.”

    • Jalen is the most productive receiver in the league per routes run. now obviously this is just routes run/total yards and the scheme can play havoc with this calculation but he’s in good company. Puca is number 2.  im not sure that x axis is relevant, but my god Metcalf is just getting mugged.     Per next gen stats Jalen reached the top speed in the playoffs. Newton’s first law of motion stays winning. Coker was also the best looking player on the field against the rams. To me he looks just like a young anquan boldin.  Coker made just over 830k in 2025. He is an Exclusive rights free agent in 2026. This means if the panthers tender him with a one year contract based on the league minimum, he has to play here or nowhere else. He’s not allowed (wink wink) to negotiate with other teams   In 2025 the ERFA was 1.03 million, or 3.1% what Joe person claims Bryce Young is worth annually. three years is the cutoff to become vested in the NFL pension, with higher benefits per year accrued after that. For those that have never heard of a pension, back in the day before boomers “two in the heart, one in the head’d” future generations, your job handled your retirement.  Three years of service also unlocks a whopping five years of health insurance; big deal for a player who still qualifies for his parents coverage. Great system, NFL. Roman gladiators were treated better. Electro, I just became a fan when Bryce got here and I can only name three people on the team. Why does this matter? NFL players don’t make money for very long. 40% never get a second contract. A season ending injury can happen at any moment, especially when your qb is a blimp commander who can’t see over the offensive line. Ickey was in line for a massive payday that he absolutely earned. He lost generational wealth (Chris rock joke here) with that patellar injury and who knows if he’ll ever play the same again. He’s certainly not going to get that new contract which is rough but it’s the way things go. Coker absolutely should not play another down for the Carolina panthers without a new contract. He just had a huge coming out on the national stage and has the numbers and tape to back it up. He's the best wide receiver on the team. Yes I know tet got (a very chintzy) thousand yards but Coker is pound for pound the better player. And that’s saying something because Jalen loves him some orange chicken. If he was a free agent this year he’d be the top WR on the market. Panthers have a lot of (honestly very easy) cap choices to make. For whatever reason they’ve already verbally committed to Bryce’s fifth year and are floating a three year extension. They’ve started hemorrhaging offensive linemen, soul of the team JJ Jansen will need his 1.4 million if he comes back, and of course you gotta lock down Leadership Council stalwart Christian Rozeboom. I would argue that instead of giving the worst qb in the league over the past three years another fuging dime you lock up and reward Jalen Coker. This shows the rest of the team that production is valued, regardless of draft position, and keeps Jalen in the building and team training program. Again, Jalen likes to eat. Will the panthers recognize this? I wish I could say the panthers head coach is good at evaluating wide receivers but….yeah. Also Canales let him clear waivers to begin with. Anyway Jalen should be the top contract priority fug Bryce fug Canales Hail Satan
    • The padded practice restrictions have definitely impacted the game. 14 padded practices during the 18 weeks season and no more than one per week. That's crazy to me. But... As for Legette, he probably is in the best place possible to learn under those restrictions. But drills will only go so far. And it really isn't drills for him. It's knowing all the little intricancies of how to be a WR. That only comes from game experience, in my opinion. Being put in different situations at game speed. Hopefully he puts everything into this offseason. I'm cheering for him. This team needs him.
