Rhys Lloyd to Giants or Vikings?

Recommended Posts

The Giants will host free agent K Rhys Lloyd on Monday.

The Vikings are also interested. Purely a kickoff specialist -- and a very good one -- Lloyd would fall in line behind Lawrence Tynes in New York.

I didn't realize he may not be back on the team. So what is it going to be:

1) Kasay handles kickoffs

2) We sign another kickoff specialist

3) Kasay gets cut and we sign a kicker who does both (Darin Gantt keeps hinting at this)

Baker is solid. If we cut him I will really question allot of the decisions the FO is making.

If it comes down to Kasay or Baker, bye bye Baker. Baker may be soild, but we can get another one that does kickoffs. Kasay is still a great kicker.

Kasay gets cut. They are either giving him time to retire on his own......or just waiting b/c they didn't want to hit the fanbase w/ both him and Jake so close together.

Carolina proved the past 2 years that Kasay alone wasn't good enough in their eyes. If they had ANY intention of keeping him this year Lloyd would have been kept. Lloyd is the best specialist right now...and they aren't going to bring in a lesser version just to let Kasay kick one more year.

Kasay can't kickoff anymore. Period. If they want to keep him on for FGs, then they have to figure out how to deal with that, but his leg is old and we can't gamble on him getting us touchbacks.

I'm not that old or anything, but do you really lose all that strength especially when you aren't on the field every single play?

I'm just talking history. We brought in Rhys for a reason...Kasay wasn't getting it into the endzone anymore. There can only be one reason, his leg is not what it once was.

But dude is money on FGs. It'll be an interesting off-season for sure.

While I guess it's possible Kasay is let go/retires, I think it is more likely they want to bring in a young guy they are more comfortable with kicking FG's than Lloyd, and develop him to be Kasay's replacement in a year or two.

    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
    • They also came out for the encore and the singers were dressed in canes jerseys. Pretty fuging cool.
    • She kicked ass. Obviously not the same but it’s an absolute pleasure to see this band live. What a great evening.
