martin really showed he has what it takes to be a good FS and godfrey really stepped it up when he found out his spot was in jeopardy. i feel really good about what we have going there.

the secondary is in good shape. with one year under their belts in the scheme it should be near the top in the league.

I could see us taking a CB in the draft because of this richard Marshall thing.

the fact that teams are willing to let elite LT's leave for just solid ones slightly more often than they are willing to part ways with an elite DE for just a solid one proves how much more valuable the DE position is than the LT position as far as finding a replacement goes. Not many first round LT's are bust.

If a team runs a 3-4, #2 is LBs in both quantity and quality. Go thru em like like cheap beer on a hot day. I remember that from the Capers years. If a team runs a 4-3, #2 is the MLB, gotta have an elite leader and football player wearing that helmet with the green dot. Does no good to have a bunch of holla for the dolla uber-letes if they arent' being adjusted into the proper positions before the ball is snapped. Good thing we're set at that position.

Hurney is doing what he always does, specifically, trying to put us in place to select from 4+ positions to draft the BPA with our first pick. At the very least, he's putting us in a position not to have to draft a 4th round WR or DE with our 2nd pick. The draft is read and react, just like a LB after the ball is snapped. Talent trumps need by a certain percentage that is adjusted on the fly to fit the situation, but if the GM hasn't put the team in a position that talent is more important, he's failed in his draft prep.

Salary is one way to measure a players importance, but there's a problem. What salary actually measures is a combination of a player's importance and rarity. Elite pass rushers are hard to find, thus the big contract numbers, but that doesn't actually make them most important. While I agree that quarterback is the most important position(we saw last year how QB play can make or break a team), the second most important position varies depending on your roster and style of play. For us it may be running back, after all, our offense would go nowhere with a crappy running back. For Indianapolis, running back hardly seems to matter at all, the second most important position could be either center, due to all the adjustments they make on the line, or free safety, because of the Tampa-2 defense they run.

Second most important position... lol what a joke.

My actual opinion I will give in the form of a question: Who touches the ball as much or more than the Quarterback?

RB's come a dime a dozen, unlike the scarcity involved with finding an elite pass rushing DE.

I will agree with what you're saying for different teams are different needs, but I disagree with the position you say is important in a Tampa-2. The free safety is rarely involved in "every" play, an elite DE is way more important, what do you think your elite pass rushing DE is going to do when you get up one the opposing team by a couple TD's? yea, so long worrying about run coverage, free safety on the other hand will be running around the field getting very tired trying to cover the entire field, instead he will just be covering one half or the deepest player. It all starts up front for the Tampa-2.

    • Oh please with the wallowing in victimhood I'm going to take my ball and go home routine. You were just in here referring to people as super weird haters because they don't completely agree with your borderline delusional spin on what Bryce Young is and isn't as a fourth year starter. We can hope by some miracle that Bryce Young will actually be able to lead a formidable passing offense this season without being irrational homers and pretending verfiable data and what we have seen with our own two eyes doesn't tell us exactly what he has been to this point which is someone who moves the ball at a historically low rate.
    • I am curious who's behind all of this though. A video and photos from years ago surfacing? Someone has a vendetta and is driving this PR campaign. I'm loving it, but I'd also like to know who said mystery figure is.
    • I say positive things about Bryce when he earns them. Which he has a handful of times. It is all here and on the record but your lobby won’t focus on that or the flat out truth inside of our critical comments.  It is a constant thing with him and his backers - one or two good things and people are trying to extrapolate that to proof we should commit to him, while ignoring or making excuses for the larger portion of his track record.  When he is able to consistently turn in franchise QB extension worthy outings the tone of the posts will reflect that.  I have already said that if he would play like he did in the WC as often as we need him to, I would be okay with keeping him.  See you don’t want to talk about that though because it shows actual fair minded evaluation not stanning.
