The Real Reason This Trade is So Bad

The real reason it's so awful is the value we got in return. The Giants made him the second highest paid pass rusher in the league and only gave up a 2nd and a 5th to get him. The last time I remember a pass rusher like that getting traded was when Khalil Mack got traded to the Bears. Now I think Mack was the better player but they were comparable. Mack became the highest paid edge rusher and had 40.5 sacks over the previous four years. Burns is the 2nd highest paid edge rusher and he has 38.5 sacks over the previous four years. There's a reason why the Rams offered us two 1sts and the reason was largely the standard the Khalil Mack trade set.

What did the Raiders get for Mack? Two 1sts, a 3rd, and a 6th. We got robbed.

Are you serious? You say only gave up draft picks while ignoring the amount of salary cap given up. That is now freed up for us.

You compare the Mack compensation but neglect to realize he had three years on that contract and wasn't a franchise tag trade?

Sheesh.

Sheesh.

Freed up? We gave it to a guard. Burns was getting traded. We just panicked. Remember how the Jets slow rolled us with Darnold and had us bidding against ourselves? We just continually demonstrate that we're the suckers of the league.

OGs are facilitators not producers. Look who he's facilitating for. He could be the greatest OG in the history and future of football and our offense would still be trash.

I can only imagine that you're referring to Bryce. I'm not sweating Bryce anymore. It is what it is. What I think of him or what you think of him isn't going to change the fact that he's going to get an opportunity this year. I'll tell you just like I told Brian: if Bryce sucks this season, we will cut bait. But, we will still have a great OG and hopefully a good O-line for the next few years.

Build from the inside out. That's what we need to do. We're rightfully focusing on the O-line in order to see what Bryce really has. Morgan and Canales are taking away the excuses. If Bryce doesn't cut it, I think that we've already seen enough to know that he won't be hear that long. I'm satisfied with this plan of action.

Not just Bryce, the whole thing. Look at our receiver group. Look at our TEs. Look at our RBs. Every unit ranges from below average to worst in the league. Bryce just further weighs it down.

Dude, he's arguably a top five OG in the league. Labels don't matter, just production.

I will disregard pro bowls but you can’t be a top 5 player in the league and have zero first or second team All-Pro seasons in your career.

Names have changed but its always the same outcome ...panthers getting the shaft.  I was curious to see how Morgan was going to handle this ....  D-

We’re trippin way too hard on 8 sacks, 32 tackles and mediocre at best run D… we dodged a bullet not paying what the Giants did.

Actually not tripping. Burns is overrated as fug. With that said, he was a first round pick at a valuable position. The Panthers braintrust just let him walk for a 2nd round pick and a swap of 5ths (if I read correctly). I'm trippin over the continued ineptitude of this front office. Burns was the highest rated FA on at least one site's board. I refuse to believe that some team wouldn't pay more than a 2nd round pick. Then again, Dan Morgan and David Tepper appear to be dumb enough that they were probably always going to get fleeced.

Heck - I'm honestly happy to see Burns' quitter butt off the team along with his idiot brother/hypeman

We really didn't give it to a guard. You need to stop saying that. Other pass rushers are getting more in guaranteed money and contracts as large or larger for four years. We're only talking 63 mil guaranteed for five 100 mil max. I would bet that the contract is structured to give us more flexibility than theirs as well. Burns' contract details haven't come out yet, but we know that it's worth 150 mil as opposed to $100.

We signed a top guard and have a sizeable amount of more cap and flexibility.

I'm not interested in arguing about how bad our team is. A lot of that should be fixed with coaching, scheme, and better O-line play.

I will say this: if you look at totals and rankings, we weren't the worst in the league.

I expect Chuba to get even better, as well as Tremble and Sullivan, and everyone else.

Burns will now play at a HOF level. We will continue to look stupid. That's what you get when you have an owner like ours. I miss u JR.

If he does that’s great. He wasn’t doing it here so why would we pay him a HOF player contract?

*INHALES*

Surely there are some gem free agents just itching to sign with a 2-15 team that jettisoned the remaining talent.

Gem free agents aren't necessarily going to be cheap free agents. We just got one of the best guards in the league.

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
