Should the Carolina Panthers extend Diontae Johnson?

The history there would be my concern. I’d need to do a deep dive into what broke down. 

Say you nail an extension now at 3 years, 18 million per year. If you expect him to perform as 1b-2a for the duration, that’s a decent discount. In consideration and accounting for “inflation”,  you take on the uncertainty of how he’ll perform in our system and he gets security. 

We win there if he outperforms the contract but plays it out. That last part gives me pause. If he balls out, would he ride out an undervalued contract going into his 30’s?

Really hoping that will be the case here. And it has been a hot minute since Pittsburgh had a good QB. So, there could be something there. But let's see it before we sign the long term lease, yanno?

November would be a good time to look at the longer term contract. Not June. Not before a single snap has been played.

I’m sure the Panthers would love to extend him at the salary of an 800yd/yr receiver, which is about what his average is to this point in his career. It’s probably Diontae that wouldn’t want to extend right now.

No way this happens because Morgan actually knows what he's doing.  As a Panthers fan, I'd love to be talking about how much we are going to have to pay Johnson a year from now because he balls out.

Because I know people that have worked with him and they rave about how talented he is.  But I understand where you are coming from and it is a fair point.

Yes 100% should lock him up and extend bryce young they both deserve to be paid.  Dj broke 1000 yds one time back in 2021 he is set to explode with young feeding him.
