Signing our young core!

It was mentioned a while ago that all these veteran cuts was to free up room and space for our young "hungry" core. While this is awesome, i see a problem with this. With all these young hungry players how can we sign them all! we have td, beason marshall, dwill, kalil soon to have stewart dline players, all coming up within the next two years?

They can't sign them all. It's why I don't see them signing both Davis and Beason to major contracts. Both are going to command 5-6 year deals worth 40-50 million. Then you have Dwill who is going to get a massive contract if they resign him. Kalil will get 4-5 and around 25-30 million or more, They won't resign marshall, he's going to want massive money. Dwill or Davis might be the odd guys out here.

i think kalil might be the odd one out.

We could franchise anyone else if we really wanted to, but centers don't make nearly as much money as the other O-linemen, and that's what they get franchised with, all other O-linemen, not just centers.

I think that we might have some leverage with TD what with his knee injury and all, as well as possibly having DWill consider taking a smaller cut in order to keep what him and stewie have going on.

Marshall might move on, but i think we could replace him if needed.

They could just sign them all with front loaded contracts this year, but that will never happen.

I highly doubt Davis and Beason are going to command the same kind of contract. Beason is one of the best MLB's in the league and has been playing on a Pro Bowl level for three seasons. Davis just started to break out last year and missed most of the season with an injury. He won't get the same kind of money.

And its not like he all the sudden became so great he is just a great athlete in position in a scheme that feeds guys stats. Thats why I have been saying all offseason I hope someone signs Davis' tender and we let him go and pick up 2 picks in a deep draft when you already have guys that have proven they can play there (and play damn good most of those great D performances were after TD was on IR). Doesn't look like that will happen but I would trade him for a 1st and a 4th honestly.

I know I am in the minority here just think that position is easy to find talent for (kinda like RB's). Everywhere else its more of a crapshot. But there I like my chances of finding talent (also the reason I wouldn't be upset if either Dwill or Stew is traded).

Are you saying that the team might let Kalil walk?

I hope that you are not because that would be laughable.

Do you know how hard it is to find a truely top tier center like Kalil? Yeah, any body can snap the ball but that is not even a quarter of what a good center does. Blocking doesn't mean poo for a center either. You want to know why Indy lets Saturday stay around, why guys like Birk can still find jobs even though they are broken down and wasted?

Good centers who can actually read a D and make the right calls are rare. Letting Kalil wallk would be a stupid move.

It was in an article posted the other day. kalil and Dwill can't sign long term deals right now because there's some stupid stipulation about them having 80% of their contracts in guaranteed money, and with the money they would demand, it would be ridiculous. it'd be apparently cheaper to put the franchise on dwill in the event we don't re-sign the two, because all O-linemen are taken into account for the franchise tag, not individual o-line positions, Tackles make assloads of money, centers don't, it makes sense fiscally, but not football wise.

Why can't they sign them all? They just let go/got out of a bunch of contracts. If your thinking money wise don't worry the draft is bound to get Panthers some of those positions at cheap. They can only keep so many of the great players, but it is better to be able to pick from a group of them and have them for cheap. When players get better they will demand more money . I trust the Panthers will always keep/make room for as many of the best players as they can.

That was written by a stiff that know $hit about the financials of this team. Some blog writer with nothing better to do.

It's already been noted that Davis would make a bit less then Beason, but not a whole lot. They will end up with very similar contracts, Beason with 2 mil more a season plus more Guaranteed money and thats about it.

Beason will command top dollar and will be the highest paid or 2nd highest MLB in the NFL. Davis is going to command close to 6 million a year.

Beason and Willis will end up making more then Dansby is right now and will get around 8-10 million a year based on recent contracts.

Kalil will command close to 30 million over 4-5 years. Dwill will be a top 3 paid RB and that puts him close to 8 million a season, contract will probably be a 5 year deal. Marshall wants to be paid top dollar/ top 10-15 DB money... 5 year deal worth 35-40 million... Add that onto 90 million in payroll already + rookies from this season..... Those above contracts would run on average about 20-30 million per season...So that's right around 110 million or so.

That's not counting if any players hit an escalation clause or anything of the such. Plus you've got to take into consideration that the Owners want to lower the payroll of players, so the cap in the new CBA will probably go down a bit.

Signing all those players to long term deals = cap hell. That's before we even mention Stewart or any other players coming up on contract talks.

why wouldn't they be able to re-sign all of them? they have the room. a couple of them they might not get to this year but they should be able to in the next year. there is no rush on these. the cap room is saved and with some creative structuring (which happens all the time...done by all teams and marty is really good at it) you should have no problem. all the contracts will be spread out so there won't be much interference.

beason, davis, williams, stewart, kalil...they'll all be around for a long time.
