Just got off the phone with insurance adjuster. They're going to use every bit of fine print to deny coverage of everything. That tree down that is going to take out the fence when the limb holding it up snaps? Well, it hasn't actually hit the fence so that won't be covered. So I just need to wait for it to finish falling? No, you have to mitigate that. I've noted you saying that it hasn't hit the fence yet so that unfortunately will not be covered. You driveway? That was caused by a flood. Not covered. What about the portion of the driveway that wasn't flooded that was just eroded by runoff? Still a flood, not covered.

Cool. I'm cancelling every bit of insurance I carry that isn't required by my mortgage company for the house and the state of NC for vehicle liability. I won't pay an additional dime. Gonna be awesome paying these rate hikes on the backend of this for nothing.

Did you watch that 60 minutes episode last night?   It was story of last's year hurricane and what the insurance companies did then.

Moral of the story was basically they intentional fug everyone with a major disaster.....because the math says most people will roll over and take it.

This is the parking lot at Western Piedmont Community College. The power companies are using it for a staging area. They're absolutely busting their asses. They deserve a lot of credit. Still expecting to probably be out of power here at the house for several more days at least but we're fine. Generator is humming along.

Read in an earlier post you live around exit 105 on I-40. I grew up playing silver creek right there 25 years ago. Fun area.

I posted the Youtube video of that earlier in this thread and the one in the lounge.

If anyone gives a fug but........

Our group has been giving the okay to go to Canton on Sunday with supplies and that seems to be our outpost.  We should be able to do 3-4 trips a week.  Why Canton I have no clue but at least it gets us in the area.  Sunday seems like a lifetime away for those folks up there but I have to assume there is a method to the madness.  Items that were requested

  • Cleaning supplies
  • Food staples
  • Fuel for generators
  • Shovels
  • Work gloves
  • Contractor trash bags

We hooked up with a local church and we are taking close to 3000 meals up there as well.  For who I havent a clue but seems like everyone is trying to do something which makes me really happy in 2024

This is great!  I would add water is the biggest need. Everyone is on a boil requirement and most don’t have power to do so.

They said no water please as it adds to the weight.  I am assuming this will be air lifted in.   Which kindof sucks as one of our truck is 2/3 full of bottle water

People who live near the coast don't seem to have that problem. I'm thinking it's more to do with your location. Nobody is expecting Western NC to get hit with the flood of the century. People on the coast are generally in greater danger of floods which is why they generally have no issues with replacing things they loss.

Don't know about that. They have all kinds of loopholes. I can underhand throw a bottle or something into the marsh where am, front row.

If the saltwater didn't ingress, but the wind blew the roof off let's say, or part of it and the rain ruins everything inside, flood people ain't paying.

That includes any damage to the stairs, gutters, outside compressor Heat/AC. I got to beg to FEMA then.

Oh I'm sure there are loopholes in just talking mainly home damage. The minor home damage stuff can get tricky.

Just saying we don't get special treatment on the coast.

What we have to pay for insurance would back that up. 35 years of all that stuff, in a high risk flood zone since this place went up.

What's happened to those people up there is horrible. They have a hard road for a while.

Man, haven't even thought of the insurance implications of this event.  I live 2 counties off the coast and we pay hellacious insurance premiums.  Every couple of years they propose more outrageous rate hikes.  The further you go inland the rates and hides are way less.  Another reason I have been seriously considering  moving away from the coast.

I guess the insurance folks never anticipated this sort of event farther inland.

I am assuming insurance rates are much less in western NC but feel free to correct me as I do not know that to be the truth.

We just got to Marion and Old Fort. It’s worse than the TV says.  Like 100X worse. Talked with my buddy that is in the National Guard up here and they are finding “bodies” daily.  They will be digging out bodies for weeks.

Ugh. That sucks bad but I'm not surprised.

    • Yeah it is wasted for everyone. Even AT, who he fed, felt like it was wasted. Was done with it.  The resources…  surely as a long term Panthers fan and from that viewpoint, he put it on a side track that does not lead anywhere but right back where we were. Years later.  If we had healthy CBs vs TB in ‘22 we could have gotten into the playoffs with a losing record. We essentially blew all of that time, money and assets to do a 360. 3 fuging years.    Now we are supposed to wait 5 years for him to make mid. Top 15 ranking. I am not sure they would have waited 5 years for Joe Montana. You think Belichick waits 5 years for Brady? Not me. And we are in the era of the cheap slotted salary for drat picks era, where it is supposed to be easier to move on. You have to want to though and you have to be in charge with a clue.  He has had flashes that lasted a whole game, a couple of times. I could stretch that to 4 maybe but I am not even sure of that. Maybe. He has had substantially more flashes that lasted a half or quarter, but all that combined doesn’t stack as high as his weak performances.  It is maddening.
    • Well, I guess we know which team showed up.
    • Here is how I see it...You can talk to the QB until 15 seconds before the play clock expires.  There are reasons to believe that Canales is spending a lot of time gathering information from those in better position to make the decisions.  Have you noticed how often we break the huddle between 15 and 13 seconds remaining?  I have a theory... 1. Canales is on the sideline.  His view of the field is not as good as the OC, who is sitting in the box in the sky--he can see the defense, spacing, substitutions, etc.  This means that Canales must get information from up top before selecting a play. 2. Canales has to spend time during the week with the defense, special teams, etc. in addition to the offense.  The OC is with the offense all week.  He knows the plays that were run well in practice--he knows the nicks and dings they might be complaining about--he knows their questions and input about certain plays, formations, etc.  Canales may be aware, but not AS aware.  3.  Canales likes the moniker "QB whisperer."  He may feel more confident being the voice in Bryce's helmet because he is Bryce's mentor.  Just a theory--but Canales could be the play caller because Bryce is the QB and he is trying to literally whisper into the QB ear.
