McConkey was and is worlds better than XL. He will be a 10+ year WR. Never a #1 but a very good #3 WR that can get open and make plays. I was all in on McConkey over XL. XL is exactly as advertised, a deeply, DEEPLY fundamentally flawed WR but a great athlete. Same as TMJ and Mingo.

XL is way better than TMJ and Mingo. He is open quite a bit, and they struggled to get open. He has the ability to separate and they didn't. He is responding to coaching where as both showed zero growth in their time here. Ladd is having more production in his rookie season with a better team playing the role AT plays for us. XL is a rookie working against the best team's CB every week. There are things he needs to work on and places he needs to grow. He is being pushed and asked to do things he never had to do. He needs to work on concentration and other nuances of WR. Somebody said it before, Moose had issues with drops early and AJ Brown did as well. But like AJ, XL is always open and a physical specimen. Most GMs would bet on those traits early as you can get a Ladd whenever.

Legette is a better athlete than those busts and he's also explosive in the open field, but he's in the same tier because on his best day, he has worse hands than TMJ, Mingo and Dwayne Jarrett.

Like I tried to say there, I was for Ladd back in the day.

But, on to Legette... let's give him some time. It was a bad day for him, and for a few other players. I see something more in him than I saw in TMJ and Mingo. Let's give him time to pan out.

TBH, it's been a rough season for Legette. He has very little in the way of pass catching fundamentals. IMO, we need to pivot from him as a realistic #1 guy and find that player in the draft or free agency. It will give him a lower pressure environment to develop.

But Moose nor AJ Brown had the same struggles as XL. He is just not a natural reciever at all. Body catching, mis-timing jumps/dives, lower tier hand eye coordination....it's not just a single thing. He really is a project player. He may pan out but that is not a guy I would be willing to put all my eggs in the basket of as a GM nor HC. You gotta find a real WR in the interim while you figure out if he ever will become one.

I think you are greatly exaggerating his hands issue.

Moose took several years to develop. People questioned him until really about late year 3 or going in to year 4. After 2 seasons he had 1 td and like 725 yds.

Didn't Moose drop a lot of passes early in his career? Legette needs to put in work in the offseason and not down on the farm.

Bro what. Are you really bringing up Moose who played for the Panthers 20 years ago? For every Moose there are 15 Dwayne Jarrett’s, Terrance Marshall’s, Mingos, Kelvin. Benjamin’s etc who never develop. Moose is an outlier, not the norm

I still see the same people dogging X. He isn't a bust yet, guys. It would seem to me that you'd want to have some patience. Call him a "project" all you want, but all he really needs to do is get lots of work in on the jugs machine. He's open plenty.

On an off note, I remember some of you talking poo about Chuba, and some of you told me that Jerry Jeudy was JAG. Funny how a change in atmosphere, faith by the coaches and their willingness to actually play to your strengths and put you into situations to succeed unlocks your potential.

I would prefer they keep looking in the drat until they hit on one. Don't matter want round just as long as he has great hands and is fast.

Were you one of the guys telling me at draft time that my choice of Ladd McConkey was just stupid?

Ladd also has a much more experienced QB throwing to him. Throwing behind a better line. And with more options. And... and... and...

Ad nauseum.

That has nothing to do with catching a football. Bad line, good line, middle school QB throwing the ball,  If you are wide open in the NFL to make a catch from a fairly decent ball, it should be made.

    • Went to school in MD when this came out. Dance floor got CRAZY when this joint came on!
    • They had best show out in Week 1 there are zero,I mean zero,  excuses for that offense  defense, haven’t play together yet and they still have Mr Soft and Predictable as DC  I expect break downs at times  …but that offense returns all starters except Tremble and both Mayes and Brady are veterans and can play LG and know the system not up for any participation awards this season they can save that practice energy for Jacksonville.     I’m sick of the, winning,  or looking competitive, when it doesn’t matter.
    • There are some tough decisions that I'm eager to see the results of... Does Blackshear sneak on to the roster as RB4? Does the team go with 4 TEs or just 3 again? And has Mitchell Evans done enough to defend his roster spot from James Mitchell? Who is WR6 and is there a WR7? TMac, XL, Coker, and AT seem to be locks imo and I'm assuming Renfrow also makes it due to all of the camp praise. Who makes it between Brycen Tremayne, Jimmy Horn Jr, and David Moore? If the team goes with 7 WRs, which one of those three doesn't make it? Jacolby George and Emani Bailey both have not gotten a lot of game time. Could the Panthers be trying to hide them so that they can be stashed on the PS? Do they go with 10 OL instead of 9? Who makes it out of Walton, Carter, and Kingston? DL locks are DB, BB3, ARob, and Turk. That leaves Jaden Crumedy, Cam Jackson, Sam Roberts, Shy Tuttle, and LaBryan Ray all competing for the final 1 - 3 spots. Does DJ Johnson get IR'd and Thomas Incoom make the roster as EDGE5? What in the fuuuuuuuuuuuuck is going to happen at LB? Only locks seem to be Wallace, Rozeboom, and Cherelus (Wallace has mentioned in media how Cherelus has been big bro for him on the team). Rhattigan had some good moments against Houston, Martin-Scott is an SC guy, Krys Barnes has popped on defense and on special teams, and Windmon got time starting for the team last season. Are two of those guys going to make it or are the Panthers poaching from another team's cuts? CB5... who is it? Do they go with the 4 expected safeties or bring in a 5th? Has Ransom done enough to take the start from Nick Scott?
