Is Coker WR1?

4 catches for 110 yards by a UDFA in his first game in more than a month is far more than "playing well." I swear a guy could put up 9 catches for 215 yards, 3 TDs and this board would say "he played decent but he's still not that good". It's OK to admit we have a star WR in the making.

Which changes nothing about Carolina's inability to extend this season as was suggested and makes that window actually even longer than 2 years.

I think the main question is why on earth would you want to extend so far before you need to

We still don't know what we have in Coker. He played well today and has shown flashes this season in limited time. Looks like a ball player, but how will he perform when he starts getting different coverages? Is he an X? Is he a slot? Can he learn all 3 spots? There's a lot of unknowns there.

XL is young as well. We poo on him here because of his drops, sure, but the kid COULD develop. Give him time.

Coker is our most exciting receiver by far, but Philly Brown was exciting too. Where is he now? At home after doing nothing after his time here ended.

Brown looked nothing like this.

You can see Coker has excellent hands, runs good routes and has body control. He LOOKS like an NFL WR.

He's promising, but almost all those yards came on a broken coverage. He did look open other times but Bryce couldn't get him the ball, however we'll have to see from the all22 how it went.

I'm excited about what he brings to us and I'm not ready to say what his ceiling is yet, but I'm also not ready to go with a star in the making. It's good we have more games to evaluate him with.

If he was really that guy, we wouldn't be needing to draft a receiver early this coming draft or go big in FA . But as of today we still need to.

Part of his ability is to create a broken coverage -- most every catch on this team is contested, year-in and year-out. So his hands, route-running savvy and overall talent equate to a star in the making. Also, I would far rather go QB, DL or trade down than pick yet another WR early.

    • Could do better could do worse. I've seen some people very indignant over bringing him back and I can absolutely relate to the sentiment. But it's just in a backup role. He's also a good locker room presence and an effort player so for a 1 year rental in a year where we aren't going to do much it's fine. This is a development year. And there will be options if need be at the trade deadline. Besides at the end of the day we all knew a signing like this was around the corner after how drafting Mark Williams ended. He should have been our franchise center for the next several years. I don’t put that failure on the Hornets.
    • No one is upset.  And what I referred has been happening.   Patrick Mahomes has an offseason basketball clause in his contract.  A ton of other physical activites like jet skiing, baseball and all sorts of physical activities are written into his contract.  XL likely already has ATVs and stuff written into his contact.  League already has been inserting a lot of that stuff into basic contracts for non-top tier players and we have seen it pan out.
    • A payment for future production, puts him a cane for 9 seasons.
