NFL Head Coaching Job Predictions

Recommended Posts

Las Vegas Raiders

My Prediction: Mike Vrabel

Wild Card: Byron Leftwich/Bill O’Brien

Comments: Mark Davis’ obsession with the Patriots is real. Tom Brady is part of ownership now and will likely have a huge say in this decision. Brady will want to establish a winning culture and bring somebody in that understands what that looks like. Vrabel is likely that guy and won’t mind Brady overstepping at times for guidance. Byron Leftwich also spent time with Brady in Tampa and could have that relationship with him as well. Brady was close with O’Brien but I see this as a longshot. O’Brien appears happy at Boston College and the only program I see him possibly trading that in for is New England.

New Orleans Saints

My Prediction: Aaron Glenn

Wild Card: Joe Brady

Comments: Glenn and Brady both spent time in New Orleans but have been gone long enough to be a breath of fresh air. Glenn would help them fix their defense which is likely to see a ton of turnover this offseason. Joe Brady would likely energize the fanbase due to his success their and as the Offensive Coordinator for LSU during their championship run. New Orleans refuses to part ways with their identity established in the mid-2000s by Loomis and Payton. These guys bring enough of that familiarity but are still “outsiders” enough to make an impact.

Chicago Bears

My Prediction: Brian Flores

Wild Card: Pete Carroll

Comments: The Bears have a culture problem- Flores and Carroll can both help. Flores can win the lock room quickly and the Vikings lose their DC which is a win-win for the Bears. Carroll is interviewing with the Bears, but does he really want to take this on so late in his career? We will see.

New England Patriots

My Prediction: Ben Johnson

Wild Card: Bill O’ Brien

Comments: The Patriots are going to offer the keys to their crumbling kingdom to the most sought-after candidate this decade. With a young QB in Drake Maye, a ton of cap room, and full support from Kraft, he will be able to shape the offense into what he wants. Bill O’Brien has not confirmed an interview yet and is rumored to be happy at Boston College. However, can the Boston native really pass up an opportunity to coach his former and hometown team?

New York Jets

My Prediction: Rex Ryan

Wild Card: Mike Vrabel/Ron Rivera

Comments: Cleaning up this mess is not going to be easy and is likely going to take a strong personality who has coached before. Dealing with Johnson, Rodgers, Wilson wanting out, etc. Who would want this job? Well somebody with something to prove. All three candidates above have already interviewed and have established a winning culture at some point in their career. I think Vrabel gets bypassed in New England but manages to land a HC role this year. There is a chance Tom Brady recruits him to Las Vegas, so who better to bring in than the old Head Coach they have had the most success with the last 20 years or another similar personality in Rivera. Whether Vrabel lands here or Vegas, I would almost bet my net worth that Ashton Jeanty gets drafted there to replicate his success in Tennessee with Derrick Henry.

Jacksonville Jaguars

My Prediction: Kellen Moore

Wild Card: Robert Saleh

Comments: Jacksonville is probably the 2nd least desired job on the market since Trent Baalke will be retained. There is a chance that Saleh decides to take another shot at the HC role, especially to fix the 31st ranked defense but he would be wise to take a Defensive Coordinator role with a contender for a couple of seasons for the sake of his career (FYI his old job in San Francisco is open). Moore has been around a little while and seems to always be in the mix. Let’s be honest, they aren’t getting Ben Johnson and Moore is the most experienced offensive guy on the list.

Per me.

Flores and culture improver sounds strange wasn't he terrible for culture at the Dolphins

They said he was really really tough. Some players loved it, other like Tua didn’t. Tua said he was too hard and broke his confidence.

Either way he gave them back to back winning seasons for the first time in 20 years, so it worked.

    • When a team has EXPECTATIONS you have to show them that your fandom and praise is EARNED.  People would be mad if the they lost two one goal competitive games like 2023 but they wouldn't have gotten booed out of the building because the effort and competitiveness would be there but to lose in THAT fashion at home with your entire top line going free lance and saying fug this yeahhh.
    • Well with back to back road games to open the season again we really can't afford a "slow start" at least not for the psyche of the fanbase that is already at rock bottom from years of losing. I think that will depend on our approach to preseason this go around. But I do agree the makings of a culture change could be big for us. At the same time we heard talk of this last year and then we got the doors blown off multiple times. I can agree with you it's best to try to maintain perspective until we get closer to the midway point of the season. The main things I want to see early on even if we aren't necessarily winning is spark and toughness from the offense and defense and at least keeping games close.
    • First goal hmmm im going with Verhague
