B- to B, would have an A+ if not for trading a 2nd for a project.

Then it would have remained an A- if not for the spamming of corners in the final round, two if which likely won't make the team. And I still don't like that Pike pick, no matter who long I stew on it.

What if edwards gorws into a steve smith type of player?

This kid is a playmaker. Took steve smith 3 years to become the receiver he is.

Just asking.

He has that kind of potential.

Seems like other than parting with a 2011 2nd round pick for Edwards, the 2 problems are Hardy(lazy, injury prone) and Pike(depth at QB).

Being the investment is sixth round picks I am fine in taking a chance on potential first round talent in Hardy and an above average developmental project in Pike. Hardy has Pro-Bowl ability and if he is a bust then..he was a sixth round pick....

This draft is a solid B to B-

R. Marshall looks like he could be a holdout and you need as many corners as possible.

I do not think some on here remember Smitty was the the experimental slot reciever, worked up to the NO.2 reciever to Mushin...then took off.

I can't be mad about the draft. We really got alot of value picks.

WR has alot of option now and with alot of different skill sets.

QB of the future is now on the roster either Moore or Jimmy will be pushed and made better by the other.

OLb in my opinon got a upgrade Norwood is a pure play maker who reminds me of Mark fields.

Hardy too me with all his problem is a perfect Pass Rush speciallist. All he has to do is give full effort a few plays a game and you will see the greatness.

Pike proves himself in Preseason for 2-3 years and gets us a few picks later bet on it.

I didn't think we needed anymore rookie DT's all the ones we have are 26 or younger. If anything it's better too add a Vet.

Edwards was a mystery at 1st and I didn't like we traded a high pick next year for him but I keep thinking about Randel El impact for the steelers and I get a hard on. I think he could be better then Randle El when all is said and done.

Then alot of depht at CB is never a bad thing. I say B+ with A+ Potential.

A

Overall I am going to grade this draft a Solid A... I love what the Front Office did with the draft this year.... Since I all ready reviewed the first 3 picks I will quote my earlier post.....

Right now I am giving the draft a 8.0/10

Yesterdays outrage level 10/10

Clausen- I absolutely HATED this pick at first. I went ape poo. After thinking about it, it was the right pick and the front office would have been crazy to pass him over. Why? Clausen has the potential to be the Franchise QB of the future. Usually when you draft a QB of his skill level you have to pay first round $$$$ for that talent.... Getting him in the 2nd makes him low risk.... and he is going to have to play hard to earn his $$$.

Yes I believe in Moore, but having 2 young QB's we only need to hit on one. Both of them show out, then we can trade one for great value. I'm actually not as worried about his "leadership" issues as everyone else. Being in our locker room I believe he will man up quick. A+

Lafell- This is the apparent Moose replacement. I give the FO props as this is their type of #2 WR. He is big, a great blocker, has decent speed. I believe he can be Moose or Jarrett 2.0....But there is a question mark with many WR's drafted in the middle rounds and how they would perform in the NFL. B

Edwards- This will either make them a genius or complete idiot in a couple of years. I am more pessimistic about this pick. We are drafting him to compete as a returner, which he has never done... a WR, which he has never ran a route, and Hurney said this is a developmental project. Then we gave up a future 2 round pick for him (Even though it shouldn't be that bad since 85% of this board said how weak next years draft class was, so we don't really need those pick). I believe we could have taken a fast slot WR who all ready does return... this kid is a complete project for a high price. C-

Day 3

Eric Norwood/Greg Hardy- I really like both of these picks. I think both of these guys may be able to contribute to our defense this season. Greg Hardy does not have to be a full time starter for us... I've read about his lack of Motor, but we can use him on situational downs to rush the passer. He can be a guy to come in the game, apply pressure, then return to the sidelines. His weakness has been against the run, therefore we can keep him out on these downs until he improves that aspect of his game (If it does improve). The downside has been his durability... but this is a very good risk/reward pick for a 6th rounder! Eric Norwood Is a productive player with good instinct who can instantly come in a challenge for a starting position. We have great LB's so he would be able to learn and improve his game... even if he does not become a starter, he can still be a situational rusher to generate pressure. A 4th and 6th round pick who can come in this season and help generate pressure on passing down is a great value pick. They both have upside and have potential to grow. Even with peppers starting there were times when we had trouble generating pressure... these picks will help the defense in that area. Grade A+

David Gettis- 6th round pick with upside... Maybe another project, but we need players who can turn into a threat in our passing game. Carolina has had issues for years finding wr's to contribute to the passing game... this is a 6th round pick with potential to develop and improve our WR core. A-

Tony Pike- What can I say... I love the pick. A 6th round compensatory pick! The guy has the potential to learn and become an NFL starter... He is a product of a system, but has shown the ability to make throws, read the field, and be accurate (at times). Now we have 3 young QB's.... We all know how important it is to have solid QB play, and now we only need 1 of our 3 young smart QB's to work out. Even if two or all three of them develop we will be able to trade them for High draft picks!! From these 3 guys we can have our franchise qb, a solid backup qb, and potential a qb to trade to another team for a high draft pick.... You cannot pass up this value this late in the draft... If he doesn't pan it... oh well it's a late 6th round pick!! It will not set us back at all. A

Jordan Pugh/RJ Stanford/Robert McClain- Three late round db's.... I highly doubt all three will make the roster, but if one of these guys can compete and excel then it's worth it... A potential late round contributor in the secondary... Or if not in the secondary maybe one will shine in special teams... ST has been a problem for the panthers and could have been improved thru this draft. B

I know some people wanted OL depth, or DL help late in the draft... but no need to draft a position just because... if the scouts did not see value there then there is no need to draft a player who is more than likely not going to make the team. No need to make safe picks late in the draft... Find sleepers who has the ability to contribute in some way, or who could be very rewarding. You have to be aggressive in late rounds to find players who can make the roster, and eventually contribute... That is what I believe the front office did this draft. Yes in the perfect world we would have found a DT, OL-men WR and every position we needed to come in, make the roster and contribute.... but that's unreasonable and not likely. Instead takes what's there and work with that. This is why I am giving this overall draft an A.... The first time in a LONG time I've felt like this about out draft.

While we all know that you can't truly evaluate a draft for at least 3 years, these grades are for how well they met our needs and got value for the position in which we picked.

It had to be an A. We got the quarterbacks and wide receivers we needed, got plenty of playmakers at defensive back and even got a D lineman. Don't forget that this draft also includes Everette Brown, Tank Tyler and Louis Leonard since they were all picked or traded with draft picks from this draft.

Given all of that, this is probably going to be a watershed draft for us. It might end up being one of the best ever for us.
