Panthers rookie safety upgrading football IQ

Pugh found a place on the Panthers' radar because he shared similarities with starting safety Charles Godfrey. Like Godfrey, the rookie split time in college between safety and cornerback, and he's expected to contribute at both positions with Carolina.

Since Pugh arrived in town, Godfrey has taken over as his mentor. Godfrey, in his third season out of Iowa, said he's tried to help him learn how to make it in the NFL.

"My ultimate goal is to be a great player," he said. "I want to be known as one of the greatest Panthers to ever come through here."

This is the kind of article I like to see. It's important that, at least, a couple of these late round picks turn into decent players that can provide some depth. I'm really interested to see what guys like Pugh, Gettis, and Hardy can do.

I love his comment. I would rather him has the drive and focus to be great. Rather than him saying...."I hope to be just good enough to stick around on this team for a couple of seasons".

Word. There is nothing wrong with him saying that. He is just saying he want to be the best as in helping them. It's not like he said "I will be the best Panthers than anyone else in franchise history!" as a fact or anything. He seem to have a good chip on his shoulders & will work hard to be a starter or a good backup.

    • I would say that seems like an odd comment from Morgan, but at the same time it's almost impossible to find a college QB declaring for the draft to have less physical ability than BY so you can assume almost anyone you bring in would be your go to QB sneak/designed run guy.
    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
