Abdul Carter has a foot "stress reaction" and could potentially need surgery

TBH, our history with players WITH an injury history isn't great. People always love to point to the most insane outlier of all time(and should be HOFer) Thomas Davis, but we get way more Brooks than we do TD's.

TBH, aside from that, I would take any of these EDGE/DE guys at #8. Pool is too deep and I am not convinced of how elite Carter is. Look at Burns in college and then Carter. Burns is better, IMO. Better player, better tape, etc.

Could Carter just have that next gear that Burns never developed? For sure. But I also think everyone is leaning hard into recency bias and thinking, "Oh this is gonna be Micah Parsons!" Are we sure about that? What if he is Yetur Gross-Matos?

Carter is way more well rounded than Burns ever was. Burns was and is a great speed rusher and he's a good pursuit run defender. But honestly he's subpar everywhere else. Carter has almost as many solo tackles in his college career as Burns had combined tackles.

But Carter also played OLB prior to his move to EDGE.

I don't see him as more well rounded than Burns. He is a poor man's Burns, IMO.

Time will tell. I have been right plenty of times on evals and I have been wrong plenty of times too.

There's a reason why Burns was a mid-1st round pick instead of a top 5 lock like Carter. It's because Burns sucked at everything except being faster around the corner than the OT in front of him. He still does. He's really good at the trick tht gets you paid and there were still enough concerns on his overall game for him to fall to the middle of the first. Carter is honestly better at everything coming out of college.

Well, I don't think Carter is a top 5 lock(TBD). Also, quite a different class of talent in that draft on the surface.

Do remember this is largely viewed as an extremely weak draft in terms of elite talent. The 2019 draft didn't have that overall view.

Doesn't mean that won't ultimately will prove to be inaccurate, obviously. The 2019 draft first round is fairly solid in hindsight.

I hate to break it to the folks stressing about a guy who almost certainly won't be there at #8 potentially not being ready by week 1 but what the fug does it matter? Y'all expecting to win the Super Bowl next year or something? What would a rookie missing a few weeks matter?

Yeah that's not the point. It comes down to losing confidence in the GMs ability to perform a very big part of his job. Draft. Injuries happen in football. But when guys start missing time due to known injuries, that's a problem.

And how do we know it won't turn into another Horn or Brooks situation? It doesn't have to be Carter. But the first 2 to 3 picks need to be on the field with minimal injury concerns. That wasn't the case last season.

This class is weak on immediate impact players but full of players that need time to develop. It think if you are picking outside the top 10 you better not need an immediate starter at that position.

There's no crystal ball about any of this stuff. Plenty of guys with no track record of injury turn to glass in the NFL. But if you draft a guy knowing he's dealing with an injury going into it and he might miss a little time it's not like you have a panic attack when he's not on the field week one. LOL

I'm generally not a big fan of drafting injured players but this just isn't one that scares me. Which is why he's still almost certainly gone before #8 anyway.

I wouldn't even necessarily throw the "lack of immediate impact players" as much as, lack of elite impact guys.

To me the depth of this class through early 3rd round is really great. Hence why I really want to snag 3 guys in the top 60.

I agree with you. There is a lot of depth in this class. I would love to have 4 picks in the top 100.

I agree that he'll be off the board by #8. I'm just not sure that Carolina should take a chance if he is. If he misses significant time, I don't think Morgan has built up enough credit to keep fans, and more importantly Tepper, confident in his ability to make good draft choices. Legette and Brooks had previous injuries before being drafted. Wallace didn't but is questionable for training camp due to injury during the season. Track record isn't great so far.

The Brooks pick was just so dumb. Trading up in the 2nd to draft a RB coming off of a major injury? Just DUMB. As for Horn, I don't recall any injury concerns for him coming into the draft.

Horn was pretty much always on the field in SC.

These random injuries just started popping up when he was cursed by the black cat.

    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs. Retiring after being elected 47th president of the US of A, Cam ushers in the Permanent Proletarian Revolution across the globe, Xi Jinping bows in awe. "ẄøŘƙƐṛ§ őF ŧĤə ŵØRłð, ŮŊÏŦƐ!!!"
    • Yeah your right the owner was copping hand shandies while all this was going down
    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
