Can't fault the front office for trying - we weren't going to keep Necas past this year anyway. If anything, better for it to happen now than give the bum 13 mill over 8 years for him to be a cone out there

The trying is nice but this is two straight failures.

Like hell you cant! Shouldve gotten a ball park figure from him before making the trade.

Sure, and he could say 1 thing (I'll sign for you for 13 mill AAV for 7 years) and then get here and say something different (I want 15 mill AAV for 8 years). Seems like Rantonen and his agent aren't the most trustworthy dues

The Guentzel failure is much, much worse than this IMO. Guentzel wanted to seemingly be here and our front office tried to play hardball and it blew up in their face. Rantanen just does not want to play here unless we give him more than apparently any other team needs to

Two late firsts and a 5’8” center.

This team just got set back years…. Necas could have pulled that at the deadline next year with an extension.

It’ll take two years for this team to be a contender again and that’s IF Nadeau and Nikishin come as advertised.

So seeing Stankoven and two first round picks… huge meh.

Yeah, Stankoven is pretty awful and I think Dallas doesn't have a 1st this year, so it will be future firsts. Awful value - I'd rather just keep Rantanen here the rest of the year, tie him to the goal posts, and have everyone on our team take turns spearing him

Sounds like it's going to be Stankoven and 2 future firsts from what I've seen on Reddit. Absolutely terrible return, but unfortunately we didn't have a choice

Nothing final yet, but...

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
