Bengals are expected to show interest in QB Tony Pike if cut

Had no clue that Cantwell was going to progress as nicely?

That's fair, but still -- they had a semi-proven starter in Moore and had drafted Clausen, who I would think is the obvious heir-apparent. They also drafted Edwards.

Before anyone jumps on my case about Edwards playing receiver, I still think he'd be a fine emergency quarterback. I don't see why we couldn't have entered the season with Moore, Clausen, Cantwell as our quarterbacks and Edwards as the fourth emergency quarterback.

The phrase "too many cooks in the kitchen" comes to mind. Maybe they thought they'd be able to trade Pike later for picks, but they'd have to develop him to do that.

Why the hell did I buy this insurance policy if I was never going to have a wreck!

Clausen was the insurance. ;)

Seriously, prior to this Fox had drafted what, two quarterbacks since 2002? It just pissed me off to see them going quarterback crazy all of a sudden. Where was this interest in years past?

why did they pick pike? because he was the best pick available in the draft. because if he didn't make the team, there would be a thread that another team would be interested in him. hence, he was a good insurance policy that can be cashed in for max value.

But where does it end? Would you take a quarterback in all seven rounds provided they were the best player available?

We have positions of need that another quarterback can't help us with.

    • The Bucs waived shilo sanders after he got ejected.
    • I'm just tired of ppl saying he's so accurate and then have to see recievers slow down to recieve the ball, ruining any chance at YAC
    • Some people will really look at stuff like this and say "no more excuses" but then make excuses to try and explain away the validity of big-time throws. 🙃   Back on topic though, as I mentioned in the other AT thread earlier, I hope that the team is still exploring the deal. If the Vikings want the Panthers to take on some of the salary, then it had better be at worst a 4th-round pick (though I imagine Dan angling for a 3rd). If they're willing to take on all of it, then maybe at worst a 5th. Tough pill to swallow, giving up a 4th for a 35yr old WR, but if MIN believes they can have similar success behind McCarthy then it could be a smart deal for them. Hell, if AT has any gas in the tank and gives them a 1yr sweetheart deal to close out at home, even better for Minnesota. Yea, Bryce loses his best and most reliable WR. Hunter Renfrow though isn't what I would call a huge step down though (if he's as advertised throughout camp), and it gives more reps to TMac + XL + Coker. This season is all about continued development and answering some of the looming questions (Is Bryce the guy? Is Evero the DC going fwd? How do the young WRs develop? How long does it take this defense to bounce back from being historically awful?).
