Why draft AE as a project?

if he has a hole he can go straight through but that is rare. He doesn't change direction quickly and move laterally well.....that is why Spiller always looked so much faster and was 10x more dangerous.

I agree Ford isn't the best at changing direction but he could flat out out-run most special team players. That alone would force teams to slow down and make sure they had a good angle which would allow Ford more room to work with.

rookie year no doubt Ford > AE. Year 3....I might put my money on the better football player and that is Edwards.

I'm not mad we drafted him. I'm just curious as to why draft a project when we need immediate help at WR and PR/KR.

Not sure if he will work out this year for anything, but the PR/KR is still a possibility regardless of how the Jets game looked. As far as the immediate help at WR, I think we have Jarrett and LaFell as the candidates and a slim chance for a late acquisition if that goes down the tubes around the time the 53 man roster is set.

They drafted LaFell, so they felt they could gamble with a project.

I still agree with them, we also added Gettis who is and always was a WR.

Gettis is a WR that has a lot of upside he is just not NFL ready yet... I hope we can sneak him on the PS for a year or two. Edwards would be better used as just a WR IMO or a KR guy. Punt Returning is something of a art that only a few players can do.

wow really... your talking about what he did against special teamers that would be 8th stringer's in the NFL if the roster was big enough.

Im fine with drafting a project. However, drafting a wr that can't catch then drafting a wr project when we don't have a viable #2 already on the roster im not fine with.
In other words, after two pre-season games, you are saying LaFell can't catch...I wonder how that assessment holds up in the long run, like, say, over the first half of a rookie season.....
