Is Matt Jones worth a flier?

top dawg

The FO probably doesn't want to pay for Housh, esp. with his diva-like personna. Antonio Bryant has a bad knee (and possibly a bad attitude), and Matt Jones is a recovering addict who has some skills. Perhaps we should sign the guy at the league minimum and dump him at the first sign of trouble. Do you think he's worth a roster spot at the cost of someone else's opportunity? Or do we roll with what we got? Knowing our FO, we will roll on.

i always liked him for some reason but he never lived up to his potential even before the drug problems showed up.

if he's sober then i'd take a flier on him but he's too big of a risk. we could use that spot on something that has a little more potential to be around for a while.

As a Jaguars fan I got to watch him on a regular basis and he isn't worth it. He doesn't have the same skill set as DJ either. DJ has little speed but good hands. Matt Jones had nice speed with crappy hands. He was supposed to be a red zone threat with his size for us and the only time he was a threat was at the end of games or halves when teams were playing prevent.

Why do people go through the bargain bins filled with bad knees, bad attitudes, and rap sheets? It's not worth the effort. Let our young guys work. We have our WR corp.

1. Smitty - Duh

2. Jarrett - Not much money invested but lots of time. Whats one more season?

3. AE - Is not going anywhere.

4. Brandon Lefell - High pick, high expectations.

5. David Gettis - Worth the risk. Cheap.

6. Charly Martin - Special teams

There. No need to add someone that will hinder the development of our youth.

    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
