Do DWill and JS go for over 200 yards combined this weekend?

To be fair, the Giants defense was actually ranked quite high until the injury bug reared it's hideous head and the Saints exposed our defense to the NFL. Towards the second half of the season, we had 2 backup safeties, and by backups I mean not meant to be a starter. CC Brown is a hard hitting safety and special teamer, but horrible in coverage, and yet Sheridan would constantly put him in coverage situations. Michael Johnson was completely lost and got burned many times. We had backups all over the field. This year, Antrel Rolle and Kenny Phillips are our starting safeties. They are meant to be starters. I guarantee you will see a different secondary on Sunday than you did last season. Linebackers....meh....this remains to be seen.

We're all very familiar with Rolle, LOL

He will help you in pass coverage but he won't help stop the run. In Buffalo, Perry Fewell's defenses were known for their ability to defend the pass but not stop the run.

linebackers cover tight ends and running backs all of the time and contribute to pass defense. The secondary was woeful last year, Kenny Philips flashed big time in the first two games of the season, two ints and 13-16 tackles and then got injured. Ross is always injured. CC Brown is gone and Michael "whatshisname" Johnson went from a decent safety to completely lost last year.

if you are referring to preseason, our #1's did pretty well. the jets played their entire #1's the entire first half. Eli was injured and Bomar made for a lot of 3 and outs for the #2 and #3 team defenses.

the biggest question mark is middle of the field on defense, which is a big concern for a lot of teams.

Linval and Jason PP also flashed. JPP seems like he will be outclassed some and then come up with some big plays. Linval might be the strongest player on the team and that is saying a lot with Snee, the right guard on the team.

The biggest help you will get on Sunday is the fact that Davudson apparently doesn't know how to throw to tightends or backs in the flat. So your linebackers are safe. If they can't tackle though and play tough against the run, it will be a long day. On the other hand if we put up less than 21 points, you will be in the game by default all day. Our offense has been less than adequate so far this year.

It was ranked high before New Orleans because you faced a gauntlet of Washington (4-12, 22nd rated offense), Tampa Bay (3-13, 28th rated offense), Kansas City (4-12, 25th rated offense), and Oakland (5-11, 31st rated offense). Yes you played the Cowboys in that stretch, but you gave up 31 points against them even with them handing you 4 turnovers.

You get no pass for injuries on the defense here. We had more than our share last year and stull managed a top 10 defense despite having a ton of 3 and outs as well as a bunch of turnovers.

We will see how good your safeties are tackling downfield. Our offense last year was a hit or miss offense. We had a bunch of big plays and lots of 3 and outs as well. That is what happens when you run on first and second down all day. You only get 1 chance to throw the ball for a first down. If you blow it, you wait until you get the ball again.

Not a chance. The Giants have seen the tape. I'd be shocked if they don't put 7 or 8 in the box on every play. We are going to have to win this game by picking up first downs through the air, and moore is going to need to be accurate in using his backs and tight ends in check down situations

Teams routinely put 8-9 in the box against us all last year. Even during that giants game. I fail to see your point.

Hey, don't you know you're not supposed to let facts get in the way of a good argument???

He hasn't exactly been the most active player in practice EVER. He's never really looked Rusty. It might take a hit or two to make him feel comfortable but I don't see any rust.

Still though, running backs usually don't go off in their first game. Players say it takes a bit to get their legs back. I just don't see them being able to put that much yardage down in their first game.

The loss of Hoover and Moose in the run game will be evident on Sunday.

hoover and moose weren't the ones running over and around defenders, i think it was the cardinals last year had the #1 rush defense... we passed like 13 times the entire game we ran over and around there 9 man fronts.... people who doubt our ability to pound the rock vs any front amaze me we have proven over and over we can. plus smitty in 1 on 1 coverage = TD.

    • Right...I think they've done really well. No one's going to bat 1000% but they've addressed areas of need and there's no comparison to the overall talent of the team now than when DC and then Morgan got the reigns. This whole season is about seeing how much of a step up can Bryce and this team make. If Bryce can't and last year is as good as it gets for him then at least we have a talented roster for the next guy. I think we're going to be good this season
    • I said could, not would. I recognize he has potential based on past performance. Compared to what KP has done, Howell has more potential and the physical traits to make noise. KP has small hands and a weak arm. Not something you want in even your backup QB.  I've been hammering since last off-season before we re-signed Dalton, improve the room. Other than getting younger, I don't see how anyone can say we legitimately improved the room or even tried. We might as well have signed Josh Rosen.  Dalton is still on the roster for now. That's 3 QBs unless we trade or cut him. He's still Bryce's mentor after all. Do you believe we are going to draft someone with potential and give them a legitimate opportunity to develop from the practice squad? Are we going to carry 3 QBs on the active roster? 4 for a developmental rookie? Are we going to potentially cut KP if we draft a rookie and he's outperformed? Doubtful. Cutting Dalton(if we can't trade him) and KP would be 8m in wasted cap space.  I chose Howell as an example because he showed promise in his only full season as a starter. You could plug in another name with the physical traits and potential and what i said would still apply. KP showed almost nothing and was benched. I genuinely don't care if it’s rookie pick as long as there is the potential to develop into a future NFL QB.  As much as I can't stand him, Bellichek was always developing a number 2 QB even with the GOAT as his starter. The wisdom of that was evident when Cassell came in when Brady was hurt week 1 and went 11-5 and almost made the wildcard, which 11-5 gets you almost any other year. I give credit where it's due though. Cassel and Jimmy G both came into the league as developmental QBs, potential QB1s, and went on to have careers.  You never know if you never try. KP feels like a punt in addressing the most important position on the field. Bryce has never played 2 full games of franchise QB level football back to back.  If Bryce progresses, are you ready to offer a 280m 5 year extension based off a one hit wonder year? If Bryce regresses and we need a QB in 27, are we going to trade a fortune away again to trade up to 1 to get one? Are you ready to do the past 3 years all over again?  To me, it's not about Kenny Pickett. It's about the move itself. It was a feeble attempt to improve the QB room. We better hope Bryce succeeds, because if he doesn't, we literally have no backup plan right now.
    • IOL that early isn’t good value at all. We have a LT who might not ever be good again and a RT that might retire soon. T seems deep early in this draft, so I’d go there in the 1st.
