Predicting the Inactives

Look, Edwards won't be inactive. The work he needs to improve won't happen if he doesn't see the field. I'll also point out that there's no one on the roster who had more catches during the preseason than Edwards. Couple that with him being the second PR, the key to the Mountaineer package, and a potential quarterback should the game become a bloodbath and well, you can't leave him sitting on the bench in street clothes.

They won't sit Jarrett, either. If they were going to deactivate him, he'd have been cut already. He'll stumble onto the field, ask for directions, find his spot at the line of scrimmage, check the scoreboard, pick his nose and then lumber seven yards down the field and short arm a catch right in front of him.

Edwards and Jarrett may indeed both be active, but if so then who's your eighth inactive?

Ya know, the closer we get to gametime, the more I'm warming to the idea of activating Edwards and deactivating either Jarrett or LaFell.

As has been mentioned, Jarrett and LaFell are essentially the same type of player (big, physical receiver...or at least supposed to be) while Edwards is something else (more of an Eric Metcalf, all-purpose type guy).

Thus, the question becomes: Why activate two of the same type when you can mix it up a little instead?

If the team thinking follows this path (and I'm not about to predict that as a definite) then the more likely inactive will be LaFell. Though admittedly, I think that's based as much or more on the regular MO of John Fox than it is their respective preseason performances.

Mind you, if Edwards is active, then I suspect it'll be as a receiver, not a returner. But hey, you never know.

I don't feel like looking through it right now to specifically break it down by position, but...

Just off the top of my head, I don't think we'll deactivate Norwood simply b/c he offers flexibility.

I would love to see what Gettis could do in a real game, I loved what I saw out of him in the last 3 pre-season games - he's big, fast, tough, and can return kicks in a pinch. But, for the same reason I mentioned Norwood being active, Gettis may be inactive b/c of Charly Martin's coverage abilities on ST. I doubt we have Gettis returning kicks, so if he's strictly WR, It would come down to Jarrett's spot most likely.

Sutton and Senn are out this week due to injury, and to be honest with you, not wishing bad on Brayton, but if he wasn't able to play, I'd like to see how our young guys look in extended playing time.

Well next week should be a little easier, due to some injuries and really bad performances. I hope Otah is back next week, so we can put Schwartz in for Bernadeau. Charly Martin and Matt Moore will be out, I would like to see Gettis get a shot.

If Martin is out, I really hope Jordan Senn can go.

    • Carolina Way is gone, it went out the window with the Belichick hiring. They'll hire the best coach they can, ignoring everything else if possible.    Athletic reports that the school's top two targets are Tommy Lloyd and Billy Donovan. They don't care the buyout for a coach either, they and the boosters are willing to spend and will be going outside of the coaching family tree 100%.
    • I don't think it's a homer though when I really feel this team can beat anyone.  The points that can be scored in bunches when the big three are on has high potential.  Moose has effort for days and IMO is the heart of the team.  And didn't see Miles becoming the team "vet" in the starting lineup just roleplaying lol.   We have to limit the turnovers though (Brandon Miller I'm looking at you bud, you are a bad ball handler) and some little things.   Colby off the bench is a cheat code and him and Kaulk have a nice little game going with the picks.    Sion playing every game and just getting better each game.  He has grit.  Grant and Green also grit.  We need replace Tillman with PJ Hall though.  Tillman looks like someone that shouldn't be on an NBA court, or at least with this team, he's just too slow for this tempo.   Even McNeely looked decent tonight and can drive.   If Kaulk and Moose could even be like 30% 3pt shooters man....
