Could Charlotte fall out of love with Panthers?

(By Peter St. Onge, [email protected]) Once upon a time, Charlotte loved its pro basketball team. We threw it a parade after a last-place inaugural season. We quivered with pride at its first playoff series win. It was a prominent symbol of our new prominence as a city. We couldn#x92;t imagine that changing.p/It did, of course, and when we look back a decade to the end of the Charlotte Hornets, we usually point to owner George Shinn#x92;s lurid sexual assault trial and his arrogant expectation of a publicly funded arena. But before all of that, something already had changed. Shinn, who began mumbling early about a better arena, had decided to let popular but expensive players go, including Alonzo Mourning. A merely good team seemed good enough for him.

This guy is a tool.

Shinn wanted to move the Hornets because he got in a snit over the arena and got busted harassing his cheerleaders. If he had stayed, they would till be a big ticket. It was all about the owner, not the fans.

To suggest that a similar event could happen with the Panthers just shows how ignorant of history the author is. Peter St. Onge is now firmly in the idiot column.

Well, I am a fan - do not live in Charlotte - but I think many fans feel the same concerning the "Pro" teams of our state.

WIN ON A CONSISTANT BASIS! (not every other year)

If I was paying Charlotte/Mech tax rates, I'd demand some performance before you put your hand in my pocket for a new facility.

As far as the article is concerned, I could definitely see Charlotte falling out of love with the Panthers. No matter where you go in North or South Carolina, you will find people that are fans of other teams. I know many people that claim they won't cheer for the Panthers because "they can no longer watch the Redskins every week" or because "I don't like John Fox" or any host of other excuses.

I think this year/off season will really help determine the direction this franchise goes. If Richardson doesn't allow us to re-sign some/most of our big name free agents, if we let Fox walk and don't pursue someone outside of the organization (as opposed to just promoting someone from within because it would be cheaper) and if the team decides to raise ticket prices once again while not improving the team, then I can definitely see that causing a mass exodus of support for our team.

    • i presented this in another thread. he throws better to the out breaking routes the wr run, but almost nothing to the inside. that is half the options on a wr route tree. How do you run an offense like that?  even the outbreaking routes he throws are moonballs, that allow the DBs to catch up unless the wr is wide open. he has to throw with a lot of anticipation becuase he doesnt have the arm strenght to get it there if he is a little late. thats probably why you see balls behind the wrs.
