Please keep things in perspective IF Jimmy does light it up next week.

There is a very likely chance Jimmy will light it up next week if only for the history of the Bengals defense the last 20 years when facing rookie QB or old QB's starting their first game in awhile.

Post on the Bengals Message Boards:

We've had a recent history of launching QB's careers in first starts on the road and resurrecting the forgotten names and this news only reassures me this will be an even more tedious game

Bruce Gradkowski

2006 L 14-13 @ Tampa Bay (first start)

2009 L 20-17 @ Oakland (resurrection)

Derek Anderson

2007 L 51-45 @ Cleveland (first start)

Shaun Hill

2007 L 20-13 @ San Francisco (first start)

Joe Flacco

2008 L 17-10 @ Baltimore (first start)

Kerry Collins

2008 L 24-7 vs Tennessee (resurrection)

Also in 2010:

Mark Sanchez two times, 37–0 the first meeting, then he posted a 139.4 passer rating in the second meeting which was a week later in the playoffs.

Also to note is the Bengals of 1992:

In the third game of the 1992 season, Majkowski injured a ligament in his ankle against the Cincinnati Bengals, an injury severe enough that he would be out for four weeks. Favre replaced Majkowski for the remainder of the contest. Favre fumbled four times during the course of the game, a performance poor enough that the crowd chanted for Favre to be removed in favor of another Packers backup quarterback at the time, Ty Detmer. However, down 23–17 with 1:07 left in the game, the Packers started an offensive series on their own 8 yard line. Still at the quarterback position, Favre completed a 42 yard pass to Sterling Sharpe. Three plays later, Favre threw the game–winning touchdown pass to Kitrick Taylor with 13 seconds remaining.

So, even that history continues, and don't be surprised if it does, don't go around blowing carolinahuddle.com up about how great Jimmy is going to be the rest of the season and that he is going to take us to the playoffs on his "Golden Arm" alone. He might play a few more games this season showing the flashes of his potential, but as teams game plan against him and get more film it will look like he's regressing, but the difference between Jimmy and Matt is that Jimmy has the confidence and support to bounce back.

So basically, if Jimmy repeats history, don't go screaming about how he is the second coming of Drew Brees' people, because you're only going to set yourself up for disappointment when teams get film on him.

a win is a win and it could very well be the catalyst we need to get things rolling in a positive direction.

even if it isn't and if wins are rare this season like it is looking could be the case, i'm going to milk it for all it's worth.

screw perspective.

Clawesome is gonna come into BoA Stadium and throw more touchdowns than Brett Favre ever did.

If you could clone Clawesome, and put him in at all the positions on the field and they played against another team of cloned Pickles, i mean i think the universe would explode

    • Apparently CSW lost his starting job to Thornton last year. If he can stay healthy I bet Thornton keeps that NB position.
    • I member him staying after practices with only to see he was wearing heavy weight vest, one of his trademarks. He also put in 10 years, right? People forget he was the ST stud that called the snap and made sure everyone lined up right. He was one of the "glue" guys that bought his "lunch pail" to work.... He was a willing solider, all teams need a couple of them. He blocked for sooo many panthers RBs- Davis, lane, Williams, foster, goings and when there was huge injuries he took over the starter duties and had a couple 100 yard games. If you followed hoover, he took the perfect RB path cause he was just a slow heavy one himself....
    • Walker likely depends on a couple of things. What exactly did Dan promise him, to start with.  How much other interest he actually had for a starter job at high pay is another question. It isn’t outside the realm of possibility that he could stay on as a swing tackle waiting to take Moton’s spot when it opens.    I can’t get myself to consider Icky as a viable anything until we see him back on the field.     Hunt seems to be a team player and good guy but I don’t think he is worth what he is being paid. I have him tentatively earmarked for cap causality in the near future.
