He took a great team that Dungy built and took more risky decisions when they needed it... Dungy is a fairly conservative coach, he would always get the Bucs to playoffs, but didn't take a lot of the risks they needed to go to the next level and win the superbowl. Hence, why Jon was a good fit (short term) and with Monte Kiffin as his D-coord. = Superbowl Champs

I think the Panthers need a similar mix, a great head coach in one aspect (D or O) plus a great O or D coordinator as a complement. This will help shape them into a power house!

yea, i just don't think gruden is that great at anything. kiffin however... I was happy to see kiffin leave the division.

Lets put ourselves in JR's shoes. He just lost his sons at work. He is used to a lot of cash and being successful. He knows what it takes to win a super bowl, he is facing a very, very expensive lockout where he could possibly go into debt at a very old age, and there is no telling how long he gots, bless his soul.

So, you see that Gruden has won a super bowl, you meet him in person on many occasions prior to your coaching vacancy in the way of CAR vs TB game pre-post-game, you're going to have to interview a bunch of coaches around the league anyways, why not make him one of them? Don't forget you're old you hate that you really hate to do this coach seeking process and you know there is a high chance something could go wrong. You see Meeks is great at the TAMPA-2 and could possibly provide consistency and provide for a little softer 2nd rebuilding year. You know that Gruden has had exposure to your club, to your QB, to even some of your players. You know he carries around him a high degree of publicity thanks to his recent role as color commentator on MNF which will sell some extra tickets.

You know he is an offensive mind for a very non-offensive team, you know you don't actually have many holes on your squad just raw talent. This is a Super Bowl winning coach with alot of familiarity to you AND your team that has beaten them just as much as they had beaten him. You see a better chance with this coach than the other unprovens and the greater financial burden of a name like Cowher who is sought after for services with very high demand and Gruden with next to none. You go with your gut and the worst case scenario? You're finding some great young new coaching blood talent in 3 years max after Hurney just selected 3 grade A 1st round draft picks. A.J. Green, Kyle Rudolph if he waits til senior year, Some great Defensive Tackle or DB which ever is in greater need.

I dunno guys, i just see Gruden having too many plus': Inexpensive, Charisma in Interviews, Familiarity, Super Bowl win just like Cowher, couches best under the already established Tampa-2.

I just keep seeing him in a freakin' panthers polo walking the field come summer time everytime I close my eyes thinking about our next coach.

Please don't think I'm a Gruden homer/jock sniffer/alter boy, i want Jim Harbaurh more than anything, I'm just putting my self in JR's shoes for a quick second.

      I mean, you're acting like we don't see the tippy-toe bunny hops, jump throws more than normal (with both feet dangling in the air every which a way), and off-platform but off-balance throws that arrive short or sail high. Could that be bad mechanics due to being short? Could a seeming propensity to bail the pocket towards the sidelines early as opposed to sitting in the pocket tall and strong, surveying his reads, be an attempt at trying to see an open throwing lane? I'm not saying that what you're saying isn't a contributing factor to what has been an underwhelming display of executing the QB position, but this is year three, and if the lightbulb hasn't switched on by now---if you haven't figured out that guys are faster, stronger and generally more athletic, then what's it going to take? It's hard to forget that "mental processing" was supposed to be Bryce Young's superpower. Are you telling me that he can't nail down such an easy concept as, "I can't get away with the things I did in college at the pro level," is that right? If he can't get past that, then that surely limits his ability to successfully execute all the other stuff.  Look, I'm not trying to be flippant. I acknowledge that playing pro football is more complex than a lot of fans realize, but all we can do, as fans, is observe. One of my favorite things to do is just look at the greater picture and think what part human nature is playing in the many decisions that are being made or have to be made. You're absolutely correct that fans don't know exactly what's going on, but that is by design, and in many ways it's just the nature of the beast. Some things we can't know. That being said, the professionals screw the hell up all the time. The professionals disagree all the time. These disagreements can be within the same franchise or from franchise to franchise. And sometimes these decisions are all over the place, so excuse me if I ain't exactly buying the I-know-more-than-thee sentiment and that that means that professionals always make better decisions than fans would about certain players. Some of this stuff is simply luck or a crapshoot.
