PlayMoore!

I think Delhomme will be the quarterback next season, barring any more inexcusably bad performances.

But I can't help thinking that with Delhomme entering the last year of his contract, the Panthers won't search for a quarterback in the draft or free agency to ride the pine for a year before starting in 2010. At the very least, I expect Rip Scherer to begin grooming either McCown or Moore to take that starting roll.

Not a huge Delhomme fan..

But, he'll be the QB starting next season. He's still better than Moore and McCown and the FA QB list is a complete joke. We're not gonna get anyone better this year.

Besides, that game WAS Jake. He has games like this 3 to 4 times a year. This was the worst I'd seen, but it wasn't out of character. He's been fortunate not to have them in the playoffs before, but I think this was bound to happen. If you love Jake, you have to take these games with a grain of salt because they're going to happen every season, along with the games where he puts the team on his back in the final 3 minutes and wins. If you're a fan of his, you really have to take the good with the bad.

He burned some fan (and maybe mgmt) goodwill by killing us in a home playoff game, but he'll be back next year and he'll be the starter easily.

good read.

interesting about the first 2 INTs being the ones that bother him most.

i can see why. it set the tone for the rest of the game offensively and helped (along with defensive poor play) put them in a situation that they needed to try and force the ball to catch up.

still shouldn't have abandoned the run. not sure who's fault that is, though.

I maintain it's Davidson's fault. How do you only run 15 times:

a. when you have Deangelo and J-stew?

b. when the running game paved your road to the playoff?

c. when your RBs are averaging 5.5, and 4.5 ypc, respectively in the game?

d. when your QB is struggling?

e. when you want to slow the game down so your defense can get a breather and not spend, oh, 20 minutes on the field in the first half?

It boggles the mind.

Without a doubt I am more upset about Davidson and Jake for the playoff loss, than the defense. The defense actually played well in the 2nd half ~ which by then, it didn't matter.

I still don't totally blame Jake. He was just trying to make something happen. But what did we have to keep the Defense honest if we weren't running? It was pass play after pass play, you think the Cardinals weren't smart enough to figure that out and drop some extra people into coverage? Davidson was sending Jake out like lambs to the slaughter.

Delhomme is not a gunslinger. He cannot beat teams that are expecting the pass. He's a competent quarterback, but without the play-action, he's useless. If we set up the run, he can pass effectively. If we try to make him be Peyton Manning, you get 5 interceptions in one game. That's my take.

Pretty good one too, IMO...

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
