there's a whole lot of Huddle regulars missing from the boards this year

Lots of turnover on the team too.

The new players haven't given us much to talk about, whereas the older vets held some peoples hearts/minds.

Some people probably are what RB said, and are distraught with the fact that Fox/Moore have been exposed.

Plus you can only say "we suck" in so many ways.

Not youth, juvenile

Elegant Simplicity, my friend...

Every group or organization goes thru ups and downs for different reasons... most of the "problem" now is that there is so little that is positive. I've been actively posting on here for about 4 years and you get a sense real quick of who to read and who to ignore. Lately, I will admit that there has been a LOT more to ignore... but like everything, it will get better.

I guess I just don't understand why someone would stop posting because of what others say... I've had my share of arguments and been called plenty of names, etc on here and never once thought to stop posting.

Can somebody explain to me why this guy is not a Mod yet?

there used to be an old huddle????

as for attacks...I'm more than happy to handle those that do the attacking, but in reality, at the end of the day, pretty much all of us do it to some extent...some think it's fun and games, other think it's annoying...you just can't win sometimes.

Oh yeah! Wanna E-Fight?

FWIW, I can remeber when Johhny Rockets was the Huddle "jerk" and he was tame compared to some of the obnoxiousness that goes on around here...

I've only been reading the site on a regular basis (meaning more than once a week) since the loss to Arizona in the playoffs. Even then, I really only joined to vent about it.

I can only speak for myself personally, but there are several reasons why I do not get involved more than I do. I realize this thread is not about lurkers but more about past posters...but here I go anyway..

1. I love the team, but I am not a big enough fan to know all of their colleges, kids, stats...etc. I love football but I'm not so into it that I can dissect this passing route or that cover 2 play. Hell I only began watching football because we got a team in the Carolinas(guess that makes me a Panther fan but not a football fan). It wasn't until then that I felt a personal connection with the game. In other words..some of the very detailed talk I see here at times is over my head and I have nothing to contribute to it. Great for reading and learning more about the game, but I have nothing to add.

2. Another reason I don't post more is because when I first started reading this board on a regular basis years ago, I was not impressed with the quality of posts. I mean if there is a thread on a decent and respectable topic, 80% of the posts in the thread are either inside jokes between members, one word meaningless posts that add nothing to the discussion, or just a post of some random picture of some ugly fat guy, a nice set of boobs...etc...etc. I get that there is camaraderie between members and that is great, and god knows I like a nice rack like the next man, but it seems that in many cases a thread that might lead to a decent discussion ends up getting derailed by jokes. Honestly though, I have enjoyed these forums a bit more this season than last..and have SLOWLY began posting a tiny bit more.

I'd like to get more involved, but the environment does not seem to lend itself well to new posters with low post counts exchanging ideas that may be in opposition to thoughts of more seasoned posters with higher rep and post counts.(Note when I say this, I do not mean a flame war, but rather just an opinion by a poster with a low post count that is different from the opinions of others with a higher count) I like the rep/pie options, but personally I would like to see the display of post count removed.

Interestingly enough..I haven't seen PF4L in a few weeks..

What's there to talk about anymore?

Not only could I care less anymore about this season.....but I had a lot of free time during the beginning of the season and now I'm working 2 jobs now, selling Kinects on Ebay, all while trying to manage a crazy up and down relationship that drives me nuts every day.

I'd rather spend my time tomorrow figuring out how to get someone to overpay me for my Kinect , get in another fight with my girlfriend, then have make-up sex later. It may not sound like an ideal Sunday but it beats watching St. Pierre like last sunday. ;)

Heck, a QB debate isn't even possible anymore. I'm keeping an eye on here from time to time, but I just don't care to spend as much time posting. Which sucks cause I was really hoping to grow my hate fan list. There's always next year though.

I agree. Why would someone stop posting because a person disagreed. I believe there is an ignore button on here. Differences in opinion is what makes it interesting. Someone may point out a totally different aspect and that makes you think.

The simple fact that people in this very thread are attacking others is indicative of what some are trying to explain. As others pointed out things in 2005 were great, I also felt we lost a great deal of decent posters and quality discussion after the 2008 season. Notice I said AFTER, not during.

Our 12-4 season really seemed to bring a lot of younger posters who feel that its funny to constantly flame or attack others, simply because this person has an opinion away from the norm.

I used to be able to browse this forum once a day and ALWAYS find a thread that was either insightful, entertaining or very amusing. This thread recognises this and people still try and belittle it. Now I can go a week without seeing a thread worth anything.

It's nothing to do with the record. In 2004 we started 1-7 and yet we still had board worth being on.

get off my lawn you damn kids

probably for the best that it's slow because the only thing to talk about now is the upcoming draft and this place is at its worst when:

A - the draft is coming up (hey guys NC State fan here but i really think we should take McLendon in the first)

B - there's a charlotte product in draft (guys maybe we can trade back into the first and grab chris leak?) (this really was a key talking point btw)

C - not many people on here watch a LOT of college football outside their market so you get people baselessly saying they think TJ Yates will be better than Andrew Luck because he has "it" (then leave the thread) or just want the black QB.

luckily my Alma Mater didn't have a football team or else I'd be saying stupid poo constantly like Squirrel telling everyone for months that pat white was going to set the league on fire.

3.reset rep and only allow rep to be given in the football forums

i agree with that 100%

i also think the pie feature has caused people to post more obnoxious one-liners than they otherwise might - snarky, funny responses earn pie en masse, but it doesn't necessarily do much for the intellectual value of a thread.

    • I'm honestly looking beyond DC at this point. He's too green and is making too many simple mistakes. I think he's gone after next year. I think the intention in LV was to use Mayer and Bowers similar to Gronk/Hernandez in NE. That's never really struck me as Carroll's MO though after watching him for years out here in Seattle.  He's talented enough and I think he just got lost behind the phenom that is Bowers because he couldn't develop in Carroll's system. I'm surprised Bowers is used as much as he is, though they really don't have anyone else. TE's don't really exist as focus receivers in Carroll's offense. I live in the PNW so I've been subjected to a lot of Seahawks football.  Coaches other utilize their TEs. We should too. Tremble is OK, but he's always been a project as a receiver. Again, all this is of we could get him at the right price. I wouldn't pay a lot because we need to spend on defense.
    • David. Hey, money talks.....it has been acknowledged that Tepper isn't shy on spending. He's had the NFL equivalents of used car salesman after used car salesman line up to grift him of a big chunk. Canales is one of them.  Until that changes, it's gonna be tough to build anything to last.
    • Well it's who they tied themselves to for at least another year but i agree. They will be lucky to find a useful contributor but until I see the DC situation change I am presuming it's SSDD. Well it sounds like maybe in 2027.
