The decision to put D.Will on IR

Steve Reed brought this up in his blog last night:

–Speaking of RBs, I’m still trying to figure out why the Panthers put DeAngelo Williams and not Tyrell Sutton on injured reserve. Williams was supposedly going to miss “two or three weeks” and the Panthers needed a roster spot so they put him on injured reserve. Sutton has missed three weeks with an ankle sprain. No offense to Sutton, but if I’m going to wait three weeks for one of those two guys I’m waiting for Williams.

I assume they want to see what they have given outside of Williams, but I can't imagine D.Will would be pleased with being on the shelf for the rest of the year if he has the ability to keep playing, which could harm potential contract negotiations after the season, if there are any...

I could see this working both ways... As in we plan on letting him go, or we are keeping him as reasons to put him on IR. Hard to tell which one makes more sense right now.

I will say this, if DWill is pissed about the move, he's really good at hiding it, because I've seen him on the sidelines several times since being put on IR smiling, cheering guys on, and dapping guys up...

I don't know...

Yeah Im fine with resting D'lo. As far as him going somewhere else, I just cant see it. He is a model player and the best possible type of guy to have in the lockeroom. You just dont trade those guys.

Im still good with keeping all 3. Sign em all longterm as far as Im concerned. . . and get Goodson an eyepatch.

I've been on chat with him a few times over at doubletrouble3428.com and haven't seen any indication that he's pissed about the move...

He's not afraid to say what's on his mind during those chat sessions, so if he was pissed about the move I'd expect he would have let something slip that would have given some indication.

    • It's not common for a RB to recover from two ACL tears in the same knee. It's fairly rare. You are correct that it isn't the career ender that it used to be but there is also the fact that we appear to have largely moved on with the additions of Dowdle and Etienne.  Dobbins is a very good example. He has basically missed 54% of his career regular season games since he came into the league in 2020. It will end up being 57% at the conclusion of this season. It's a big contributing factor to why he is on this third NFL team in 6 years. It's certainly possible that may be 4 by the beginning of next season. I would say there is very little chance that Brooks ever contributes in any meaningful way in Carolina. Possibly with another team but I am extremely skeptical of his future here because of those injuries and because of the roster.
    • Dude he didnt play in pre season.....  he didnt practice at all with the team until the end of October.    I do agree though.
    • Bryce had a hand in the Miami win but not nearly as large of one as Rico and he also had the extra burden of being a big reason we were in the hole in the first place. If we get a winning season he is definitely back for next year though.
