A. Luck come out of the draft and we get him or Green, and see what happens from there

or

B. Niether Luck or Green come out, and we adress DT, CB, OL, or possibly take anther WR not named Green and see what Cluasen has in his sophmore year.

I think B. If Jimmy blows then we have upgraded another position of need, and possible in the running for Luck or Green again, and if Jimmy (and OL) does well then we are all happy, and hopefully playoff bound.

thoughts?

Sign vet qb no matter what.

Cut or Trade Pike. Keep Clausen.

Sign as many quality DT's or O-lineman as available on the free agency market.

Resign Kalil, Davis, D-Will, Anderson, Marshall (if cheap, if not cut him)

Extend Beason

See if Luck Declares-draft him if available. If not trade down and pray Peterson, Green, or a decent DT is available.

Pray there is football in 2011

I think the offensive line needs to be addressed before anything. Defense is good enough to get to the playoffs. Peyton would look awful with this line. They are truly offensive; because of that we have to keep running backs and tight ends in to block. So teams stack the box and we see the same results like ground hog day over and over.

OL needs can be addressed well enough in FA and that is the direction we should go there. major needs are RG and a backup center. this isn't a good year for OGs and you really don't want to draft one of those in the first round.

DT is also a position i would much rather address in FA. i just prefer experience in the interior of the lines. also, this isn't a great year for DTs, either. DE, i think we are fine with. getting an upgrade at DT will make our DEs more productive.

we need a vet QB brought in as well, but i wouldn't count on finding one that is start worthy. they just won't be there. only way to get a start worthy QB is to trade for one and that would be a whole lot more expensive than drafting luck first overall. teams just don't part with top quality QBs. brees was a once in a blue moon type situation and i'd rather not gamble and try to find that. 99% of the time you are going to fail to find that stud that falls through the cracks. we do need a set of experienced eyes on the sidelines to help our young QB(s).

if luck doesn't come out, i might go ahead with peterson, but have no problem trading down and picking the BPA among CB or DT...maybe DE or WR, even though the need isn't all that great. i also wouldn't be opposed to drafting newton.

    • I think we have some revisionist around it here because of all the drama around Tepper's involvement. If you pull up any scouting report from the time you'll see the same take. WalterFootball's report sums up the media's thoughts on him well: "Young has everything the NFL is looking for in a quarterback except in terms of weight and height." He was the consensus top QB of his draft and the only real question mark they had about him was whether his body could hold up in the NFL. The infamous Steph Curry comparison the Panthers latched onto came from Albert Breer. The excuses I've heard for him are more anecdotal. Bryce Young's development is the only bullet point most NFL fans have on the Panthers right now. That and the coaching turnover. If you're not actually watching our games it's easy to believe this is just a dysfunctional organization that doesn't know how to unleash this talented Heisman winner.  I've seen media and fans alike run with that narrative way more than criticizing Young outright. Whenever we win there's flocks who use it as proof that the Panthers just need to be patient.
    • So maybe 1-3 vs playoff teams, going by standings as of today. I guess that is an improvement.  We are just about improved enough to be in purgatory draft wise. It really isn’t so bad in the 1st unless you really want that top QB or maybe edge guy because there are usually plenty of good players at the top but it hurts you some as get deeper in the draft.
