Good signs

1. Schwartz looks like he is adapting to the RG position. It is easy to forget that he did not have OTAs or training camp at the position, and he played RT half the season. I saw good feet today. The RT job is the weakness. It would be nice knowing that RG has a player with a future.

2. Johnson and Hardy are going to be a top defensive end duo as soon as next year. Johnson will end the season with 10 or more sacks. Hardy showing flashes. Brown will also improve.

3. Clausen looked better. His attitude and leadership will improve, and with a decent OC/OL, he could become a game manager. This is positive news should we not get the first overall pick. Even if we do get Luck, Clausen might make a good backup and get the slow development he needs to be good.

4. Gettis and Lafell are looking much better. If somehow Edwards can step up, we might be good at WR in the future.

5. Goodson and Stewart make the pressure to re-sign DW less severe. Both are dangerous.

6. The OL--The biggest problems were Bernadeau and G. Williams. They are not average. When Wharton and Otah return, if Schwartz contiues to develop into a solid RG, we could focus on depth on the OL and not rebuilding it. That is huge.

7. Munnerlyn and McClain. They look very good for seventh rounders. Munnerlyn is starting to look like a steal. If you draft in 2010 for 2012 needs, for example, you don't pressure rookies into starting roles. Munnerlyn, C. Johnson, are good examples.

8. John Fox leaves Carolina a winner--last home game, overall record. That'll do Fox. That'll do.

NEGATIVES

1. Charles Godfrey is not as good as he should be. Still taking bad angles. Give Pugh the starts in the last 2 games. Martin is the real deal.

2. Bernadeau and Williams suck.

3. Clausen will never be much better that what we saw today, but the right coaching could dress up his game to average status.

4. Even in victory, Davidson still tried to prove his idiocy, as if we needed more evidence.

Glad for the players, and for Fox.

It is very hard to judge progress with the Cardinals Defense. The Steelers, even after their emotional game going on right now will be the better measuring stick. Our backs will find the running a bit tougher and the throwing a lot harder.

As for the defense, don't know, Cardinals might have pulled it off if they got one more series.

Speaking of steals, Jordan Senn sure seems like one.

Im sorry but as much as you dress up Goodson he is still not close to Dwill production. Stewart was tearing threw AZ today and Goodson was effective but not punishing. While we consider Dwill a slasher he is just as effective up the gut. Goodson is not. If we keep them all we will have some of the most all purpose backs in the league.

Fwiw, Clausen's handful of long throws today were on target. He seemed to have a little bit of trouble with the short ones, but all in all, not a bad day.

Both Gettis and Lafell were solid. I think our passing game has a solid future assuming the QB situation improves.

I would agree. I think we looked at least OK today, for the first time all year (other than the 1st half of the Seattle game...thought we looked OK there too). Not great, mind you, but not the abomination that we have been for the rest of the season.

Clausen looked much better handing the ball off to Stewart, Goodson, and Fiametta 796 times today...

In all seriousness, I will give him a bit of credit for the attempt he made to Smitty, but I really didn't see anything worthwhile out of him. That pass he made that ended up w/ a touchdown looked sloppy and King looked as if he was stunned when Pickles through the ball to him (even though he was wide open w/ no coverage). Clausen got lucky today.

    • Madden has been in a bad state for well over a decade now but the best recent change they've made was making the rating distrubition harsher IMO. Whenever I try to play a MyLeague in the newer games pretty much every single one of your starters will be 85+ if you want to win a championship and you need probably 3 90+ guys. There's like zero seperation between the players on the court it seems like, someone ranked 85/99 should be a great player going off the percentage but instead that's essentially an average starter. Having a larger rating gap between the superstars and the JAGs highlights the difference in skill a lot better, whereas in 2K some team's 4th best defender can square up your 96 overall superstar thus causing the gameplay to feel rather homogenous.
    • I think, if the stars align, and the light comes on for XL and Metchie finds his way, and Brazzell's early returns are accurate--man, this team could be LOADED at WR.  Six will make it: TMac Coker XL Brazzell Metchie Tremayne Moore Horn
    • Personally, I think the Panthers would be a good place for a QB if he falls to maybe a 4th rounder or later.  I am not sure how they feel about the gambling and I am not sure of the details, but I think we have to plan for life without Bryce as much as we are planning for life with him.   I like Sorsby the player.  I see the Jets going after him if they have concerns about Klubnik-and they need competition for him anyway and a future replacement for Geno (who I think will suck back in NY).  Watch Atlanta, Cleveland, Indy, Miami, too, but Carolina is the team nobody is talking about, and Sorsby would be better than Kenny Pickett and maybe Haynes King is slated to always be the third QB/etc ST and Swiss Army knife--if he makes the team.   If Bryce falters, we need a QB who has potential, and Sorsby has it.  Pickett will never be a starter in this league, so his role is a #2.   I would be surprised if Morgan pulls the plug, but at worst he is a good backup and potential developmental starter.  To me-on paper--it makes too much sense.
