If you want Luck, Harbaugh is the key

If he pulls that one off, I'd root for his failure hardcore.

Me too (obviously)

I don't know that Harbaugh is looking to be the highest paid coach in the NFL, but I do think he's looking for an above average salary.

Can't honestly blame him. Any of us probably would too if we were in his spot.

My personal hope: Jerry opens the wallet for both Harbaugh and Luck.

(doubt I'm alone on that front)

Second-hand stuff from Peter King. Stated that Harbaugh believes Luck has always planned to stay in school but believes he will make the decision after the bowl game.

I'd expect most kids think that. Right up to the point their Coach or Agent tells them you're the number 1 pick in the NFL Draft and you need to go.

Aaahhh, but if he goes to another NFL team, Luck could always pull an Elway/Manning maneuver and say he won't play for any team but whomever has Harbaugh.

If the Panthers could get Phillip Rivers, a 1st round pick, a 3rd round pick and a 5th for Luck I'd be all for it. I don't see a QB the quality of Rivers in the draft after Luck however.

If he pulls that one off, I'd root for his failure hardcore.

Fine, but I'd take Rivers over Eli any day. Not to mention the 1st, 3rd and 5th that came along with him.

Would Harbaugh want to much $$$, thus playing him and Luck right out of Jerry's pocket? God, I hope not. For this to work, Harbaugh has to be flexible.

In reality Harbaugh has absolutley nothing to do whith Andrew Luck receiving a contract somewhere around 6yrs, 80 million if he comes out for the 2011 draft.

Specualtion that Harbaugh controls him somehow is purely bullshit.

This is a pretty simple fix.

Hire a GM who will hire Harbaugh with a lot of money and then he will select Andrew Luck. Who was the more important piece to the puzzle, Peyton Manning or Tony Dungy? Tom Brady or Bill Bellichick? Ben Roethlisberger or Bill Cowher? Drew Brees or Sean Peyton? I mean if you give me a choice to have any of those QBs or any of those coaches I am taking the QB every time. He is the one making plays.

    • The aversion to tying up too much money in the ground game around when it’s what’s winning us games is crazy to me. I get letting Rico walk if you think he’s easily replaceable but I don’t see many people arguing that, just applying an arbitrary salary cap based on what we think RBs are currently worth. I’d rather be stuck with Hubbard as an overpaid backup (not the worst one to have, mind you) than lose out on the most productive player on the offense personally.
    • Why do people keep saying things like “it’s not Young’s fault we spent so much to draft him”? Who cares if it’s his fault?  Nobody is saying send him to jail or anything.  People aren’t talking about blame for the decision to draft him, they’re talking about how bad he is as a QB and how we’d be much better with even an average QB.  Pointing out that we sunk a lot of resources into drafting him isn’t invalidated because he didn’t make that decision himself. Doesn’t matter whose fault that was, he’s still not playing like a QB who was drafted at all, much less one that cost two firsts, two seconds and a #1 WR.
