Ryan Mallett

A general Mallett thread...Apart from the threads about the Panthers' potential QBs. I'm basically trying to see what people think Mallett is capable of becoming at the NFL level in general. Also, what QBs would good comparisons to him and what team would be the best fit for this kid?

i've seen comparisons to derek anderson. i could compare him with jemarcus russel.

lack of intangibles. relies mostly on his size and arm. not known for making good decisions, having good mechanics, or being very mobile in the pocket.

actually sounds like ryan leaf.

people get too caught up in a player having a "cannon for an arm" and thinking that it is enough to win the games and will draft them thinking that it will be enough to make up for their lack of skills or intangibles. more often than not, these guys are the ones that turn into busts.

i'd be much more afraid of this guy busting than luck. i don't care who he played against in college. russell played against those guys as well.

I'm not down on him. I don't know much about him, nor have i watched him play much, but i'm not down on him. does arkansas run a spread or a pro style?

I don't know, I'm thinking Petrino runs a more open, spread out offensive scheme

And from Mallett's interviews it seems he's dumb as a brick.

*Good analysis rayzor, but you never know he could excel depending on where he goes. Honestly, he reminds me of (now please, I know this is ridiculous) a much less enthusiastic Terry Bradshaw for some reason.

just because you can bundle a few sticks together and wind up with a higher IQ than the guy doesn't make him like bradshaw.

you're right it is ridiculous, but you could call that an (although unplausible) best case scenario.

It was a personal random comparison. That's all.

I was just saying, you never know until they're given the opportunity.

People attempt to sound so incredibly sure about draft prospects when really it is one of the toughest things to analyze in world of football.

Pike really isn't a good decision maker either. I think that's a good comparison though, he's basically Pike with a strong arm.

I wouldn't draft the guy even if we pass on Luck and he drops to 65th overall. Same goes with Locker.

Wouldn't be totally against trading down for a huge deal and going after Newton if you can get him later in the draft. But he's risky as hell and looks like he's got a good shot at going in the top 10 now, which would be too high for me to want to spend on him.

All in all I think you're better off just keeping the pick and taking Luck.

I was trying to make this thread not about the Panthers drafting him or anyone for that matter

Its about Ryan Mallett and what he can do

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
