What kind of offense do you want to see next year?

I would like to see us have a offense like the patriots. I personally have hated the Pats since we lost to them in the superbowl but I will be damned if they don't constantly have one of the best offenses year after year no matter what player has been replaced. I would like to see us use more passing with our running backs, I would also like to see us have more speed at WR which I believe is a must have to win in today's NFL.

Also I would like to see us continue to have a top notch running game. I really hope that Williams will return because I think having Stewart and Williams is great and they have always been succesful but sadly we don't need Williams anymore. I would like us to use Goodson more often in the pass game and use him like the Pats use Danny Woodhead.

I'd like an offense that adjusts to personnel and opponents. Look at New England, they put the best players on the field and call plays to maximize them. This year they have 2 good TEs so they run a lot of 2 TE sets. I don't really mind the type of offense we have now, just the actual implementation of it. Your allowed to run plays that you don't generally find in your base offensive scheme, but no one told Fox or Davidson that. I think the best offenses may have a base scheme but they mix and match formations/plays so much that they are pretty much a hybrid. I'd like a hybrid and if it has to have a base I don't mind the current play action based offense, just bring it to this century already (I'd settle for something not out of the 60s to be perfectly honest).

In the Fox era we've been using a stripped down version of the Coryell offense. Basically, it's a power running game with a vertical passing attack, and the only difference between what Coryell ran in the 70s and what we've been doing under Fox is Coryell used more receivers.

I'm assuming that most people here would like to see a more wide-open offense. Are you looking for a Martz-type system (Coryell taken to the outer limits), a west coast offense, or something out of left field? What do you think?

I am old enough to remember it well. Coryell had a very good QB, would actually throw to his TE (not just for a check down), and yes used more receivers. If his defense had been better he would have a ring.

One that is designed to make the best use of our personnel on hand. Don't want to see a new style come in that tries to shoehorn our players into an unfamiliar offense. With the team we have, we need to continue to have a heavy emphasis on the run, at least for the time being. Especially since we will likely be breaking in another rookie qb next year.

Some say an offense that attacks weak personnel, but I say they all can do that. You have to rely on your QB and your OC to find those mismatches and exploit them. As Davidson Deac says, you want a system that fits personnel naturally. Thinking on the run slows you down. With a good QB--a tall one with an arm who can make the throws, I think we should stay the same. In 2003, look what we did? If Luck is to be the QB, imagine the 2003 offense with more focus on TEs and backs? Imagine if the QB could run? Drastic change is not needed.

    • WR: Nico, Woods, Tank (R) TE: Schultz OL: Tunsil/Howard/Deiter/Mason/Fant vs. WR: Chark, Thielen, Mingo (R) TE: Hurst OL: Icky/Zavala (R)/Bozeman/Jensen (R)/Moton   Panthers' had the better OL before losing BC week 1 and AC week 4 which is kind of ironic considering how in the following year DB went down in W1 and Shaq in W4 resulting in the defense going all to Hell. CJ has done amazing in Houston, but he also wasn't asked to carry Zavala, Jensen, Mingo, Hurst, and Chark as a rookie.
    • Past 5 seasons, IMO CJ Stroud and Joe Burrow are the 2 best young QBs that have emerged in the league in that window.  They also didn’t need vets to be their primary pass catchers.  They helped fellow youngsters be great at WR.   almost all the other young QBs have been paired up with vets in their top options….and haven’t been as promising.  so it isn’t Madden.  But the league hasn’t played out as you suggest it does.   Good QBs make others around them better.
    • In 2023 their roster wasn’t stacked. They nailed the poo out of the 2023 draft and since they knew Davis Mills wasn’t the guy, they tanked properly to get pick 2. They also took Cleveland’s ridiculous offer for Watson unlike us with Burns. Houston received enough draft capital to jump up to 3 while picking up the right guys in Anderson and Stroud. The Texans were not stacked or better than us in 2023. They had 11 total wins from 2020 to 2022. They didn’t have a terrible front office so they made sure they got their QB of the future while tanking well and getting more draft picks. They are a textbook study of what we should have done in 2022/2023 offseason even though people in here still think tanking is a bad word and our culture would be bad if we were the Texans. We literally had the chance to be the Texans right now and fuged it up.
