One colossal, collective fantrum...

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

What are the exact drafting procedures for a draft after a lockout year? I've found so many conflicting claims on what happens. Do you know Mr. Scot?

CBA mandates there is a draft before the expiring date. Thus, why we will have a 2011 Draft. However, the 2012 Draft is not clear.

I've heard a couple different explanations.

Gantt says we'd keep the #1 pick for the following year if there is no football this year. Sounds logical, but I couldn't produce a link from the NFL to confirm it.

Entirely possible that if that happens, there may be some infighting in the league over what to do.

I dont know what the Panthers are going to do to excite the fanbase.

This is an all-time low.

And now, since Luck didn't declare, I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

With Panther luck, if you saw a light, it be a freaking Train.

This truly is the lowest point our franchise has ever seen. We are at the rock bottom brothers and sisters. It's going to take an amazing coaching staff to get this team turned around for next season. The worst case scenario is us being an abysmal team again (which seems likely right now) but not being the very worst team in the league. Make no doubt -- we will become a perennial awful team just like the Lions and Browns if we don't turn this team around for next year. We're going to see multiple 4-12 seasons around the corner. I have NEVER been a pessimistic Panthers fan. In fact, I'm usually far too optimistic. But I don't see how any rational person can see a future for our team right now unless we really see some positives soon.

This still needs to be the most active offseason we've ever had. We need to sign all the best free agents and maximize this draft and get any smart trades done that are available to us. We need to do everything possible to turn this team around. It's now or never. Because even if we are awful next year (and I hope we're not) I doubt we're going to have the #1 pick again. It would be just our luck (no pun intended) that we end up with the #2 pick next season and have to suffer through another awful season and not get rewarded for it in the draft.

Very true Mr. Scot, I should have noted that. It's yet another reason why I'm pessimistic though.

Not a whole lot to be positive about. I would love to be positive, but we are a 2-14 team. We are in a division with two franchise QB's in Brees and Ryan and another quickly moving toward that status with Freeman in Tampa. We don't have a QB and have little to no chance of competing with them. We have a front office/owner that is avoiding free agents like the the plague. Yes, if the running game starts off strong next year and a healthy o-line we might push 5-6 wins, perhaps .500 if we are lucky. But without QB we will not be a contender.

Guy at the grocery store to me regarding my hoodie: "Man, you better get rid of that Panthers poo"

Oh yeah, we're on our way there.

Either that or get rid of assholes that tell you to get rid of your Panthers poo... I know a pig farm not far outside of town.

Gentlemen (only men act so melodramatic over football), man up! Get a grip! The way some of you are talking, you have lost sight of reality. And to be honest, I am somewhat surprised by your mental breakdown over the next Peyton Manning who could turn out to be Ryan Leaf, or anywhere in between. To be honest, it is somewhat disappointing (tongue-in-cheek). It's almost like if you were at the top of any skyscraper in Charlotte threatening to end it all, I would feel compelled to say "Do it!"

Time to get on with the business of being a rational and analytical fan, and leave Luck in the rear-view mirror.

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
