Clausen will develop into a fine qb next season.

Did the Panthers put him in a position to where he felt he could be a leader?

Put behind Moore, all off season he was considered the "backup". He seemed to have Smith in his face more times than not. Who is going to respect a young qb if the veteran "super star" on offense is throwing temper tantrums at him?

Could he find the confidence to become the leader we all want him to be on the offense, this off season, tc? Maybe. Going into the off season knowing he's the starter, would probably do wonders for him.

Anyway.. the grass isn't always greener. No qb in the draft right now strikes me as a guy that's going to come in, make an impact and take charge. Especially not if Smith is in their face a lot.

he didn't take advantage of his opportunity. He fell flat on his face and looked like a lost child on the field. there is a very good reason he fell as far as he did in the draft. If he was a leader Smith wouldn't have been in his face at all.

Despite my avatar, I'm not a Clausen fan boy, and have ripped on him quite a few times. But....

With a new OC, a new QB Coach, I think Clausen has a pretty good chance at success.

I know, I know, "when he had time in the pocket, he was horrible.". It was apparent he didn't trust his Oline, they sucked ass at protecting the passer early on in the season and in spurts even in the later games. Can you blame a rookie that took the kind of abuse he took for being a little antsy, feeling pressure where there was no pressure?

Can you really say the Panthers did everything in their power to help him succeed? Was Rip a good qb coach? Was Davidson a decent OC? Did you feel they tried to call plays to fit his strengths? It seemed to me no thought really went into it, that they were just doing the same generic plays they'd do with anyone back there.

I look at the Rams and see a team that changed their play style for their rookie qb. They gave Bradford a ton of rookie friendly plays. That franchise gave him confidence in knowing he was "their guy".

I'm not ready to write Clausen off yet. Hopefully, neither are the big wigs in charge.

We need to be ready to write him off. Unless, we want the #1 pick again. Kid showed nothing.

Mistakes I'd be fine with. That guy hasn't shown enough to be considered a career backup.

I saw something in week 17 that gave me a little hope. I know it's not much, but, there was a few plays where they let him pass multiple times in a row. He seemed like he was in rhythm, hitting targets dead on the money. Then he had that deep int, and the play calling seemed to go back to "run run, check down, punt".

If he can be that qb, the one that was throwing it, seemed to be in rhythm, accurately(aside from that int, on the series in question) hitting his receivers, full time, he can become a good qb. I think better play calling and a new qb coach can help him greatly.

Sure they did, they benched Moore week 2 for him. He had all season do show just a little something. Whether that be leadership or play. He did nothing.

problem is he can't be that QB. Not one person outside of Kiper thought he would amount to anything in the NFL and now we know why Kiper was pumping him up.

that is not true. There are a ton of other names that thought he'd be a decent pro QB, just take some adjustment time. They just... were probably all wrong =P

Ok, maybe I was trying too hard to make a point. yes, it appears they were all wrong.

if he isn't replaced this year, he will be the following year. it's only a matter of time.

personally i would rather not have another losing season and i don't care whose on the other side of that unicorn fart of a rainbow.

I think he'll get this season under a new staff to see whether he's up to the job or not.

    • Over previous years? Sure is 😆
    • An odd little vibe I've noticed here of late: some folks are "all or nothing" to an absolutely extreme level when it comes to Bryce. Here's a bit of truth telling though: There are, in fact, things Bryce does well. Likewise, there are areas in which he's improved over his time here. He has, on several occasions now, legitimately helped us win games. On the flipside, there have been failures in other areas as well as coaching that we're not in any way his fault.  And finally , it is also genuinely possible that the team may see him as the future, even if we don't. The craziest part, though? It's actually possible that they're right and we're wrong. All of this is true, and more, yet if you accept any of these premises people go from zero to apesh-t in under three seconds 😳 Anything less than total disavowal of Bryce and / or agreement that he's the worst QB of all time and suddenly you're a "stan". Oy 🙄 The reality though?  Bryce is indeed an NFL quarterback. Not a great one, probably backup level good, and I've seen way worse. Now, if you run that statement through your personal Google translator and it comes back with some version of "I want to throw 50 million a year at Bryce for the next 10 years", that's not really my issue it's yours  I don't wanna make him the franchise quarterback, but it's not my call. Win or lose, the team is going to do what they think is best. And as always, if it disagrees with what I think we should do, I'm gonna hope I'm the one who's wrong. Internet clout means nothing. Watching my favorite team win at my favorite sport meas fun 😁
