JR upset with QB play, supports GM

Jerry Richardson is unhappy with his team's offensive play, most specifically at quarterback. He thinks general manager Marty Hurney can solve those problems even if he's focusing on hiring a defensive-minded head coach.

Richardson told The Associated Press on Friday night he still believes Hurney is the right man to run the football operations after consecutive seasons out of the playoffs culminating with an NFL-worst 2-14 record this season.

--------

"We have the worst record, but we don't have the worst players," Richardson said, defending Hurney. "That's my opinion and the opinion of a number of other people that I have a high regard for."

"We're putting a very high priority on the offense and that can be accomplished without having an offensive head coach," Richardson said by phone. "We're also putting a very high priority on trying to get the absolute best person, whether it's a coordinator or individual, to coach the quarterbacks."

Based on this, I have a hard time believing we'll go into next season with Clausen pegged as our starting QB.

He only started because Moore went on IR.

Hopefully the O-line actually blocks next year so our QBs won't turn into the new Dan Morgans.

    • Throw in the fact that you have to overpay free agents to come here.  Everyone wants to win--or at least have a decent chance at winning. This followed the Bryce Young trade up draft.  That is the draft that crippled an already crippled franchise.   They moved up to #1 and paid the king's ransom only to admit that they weren't sure who they were going to draft--then they picked the wrong guy....amazing incompetence. Now let's take a look at the AT trade--we basically got some future mid round draft capital.  Minnesota has a QB on their roster who reads quickly, is accurate, and is only 24.  (Brosmer).  Minnesota is keeping him on the roster because on the PS, they would lose him.  Is he the answer if we traded AT for him?  Maybe not, but there is potential--as much potential as you will find on day 3 of the draft.  He would be, at worst, the best backup QB on the roster.  Now, did we give Dalton a ton because he has a good relationship with Young?  What if Young does not work out?   Then you have 2 mistakes and no QB. I dunno--I believe in competition, and I believe there should always be efforts to improve the roster--are we trying to make ourselves not look inept?  With Baker and Darnold leaving Charlotte for successful turnarounds, are we capable of having a good QB?   Cam was natural ability and he had the Alpha gene, and we drove him into the ground.
    • When he looks like trash this week against the Cardinals what's going to be the excuse?
    • Facts!!! God damn I wish Cam had this many excuses made for him, he’d be in the hall of fame
